Abstract This thesis aims to find out the fundamental core of the philosophy represented in poems of Yun, Dongju by analyzing about 40 of his proses and poems. This is fulfilled by noticing the fact that the change of consciousness in his poems can be classified by Fowler’s six stages (3-6) of Faith Developmental Theory. According to Fowler's theory, the stages of his poems are as follows; 1934, when he expressed his discovery of, confidence in, and passion to the ideal life in adolescence in his poems Life and Death, A Candle, and There’s no tomorrow, is the year of the developmental stage 3; 1935 to 1940 for his preparation to enroll to Sungsil Middle school, stage 4; 1941 to 1942 when he moved to Japan, stage 5; and his last years in Japan, stage 6. In his first stage of work, Life and Death and The Cold Winter, Dongju accepted Jesus Christ as the role model of his life driven by the sense of admiration towards the great men who overcame death by realizing the constitutional concept of death and overcoming it in Christianity. Also, in There is no Tomorrow, he reaches a conclusion that Christians should live their daily lives in preparation for the future. Such understanding of the present aspects of salvation becomes one of the foundations of his work, 'the search for the life without shame'. In the second phase, which coincides with the fourth stage of Fowlers’ theory, he experienced a certain conflict caused by the objective self-reflection of his lifestyle, belief, and attitude. His works At the Peak of Moran, Such a Day, The Broken Dream, The Younger Brother's Portrait, The Sorrowful Tribe, The Beatitudes, and the Morning of Genesis, which feature the criticism of the contradict reality, show his consideration of the solution for struggles being aware of rage, frustration, and sufferings incurred by the compatible reality. Consolation written after putting down his pen furthers Such a Day in terms of his awareness of the reality and his problem-solving ways and reveals the depth of his conflict. His works searching for his true self start with The Miracle, develop with The Sanctuary of Love and A Boy which dealt with the image of the true self. In Self-Portrait and Rose Got Sick, he contemplates the negative awareness for the realistic self and the problem of sin. The conflict between the problem-solving methods and the criticism of the reality and the process of seeking for the real self correspond with the characteristics of Fowler's Faith Developmental Stage 4. He finds the solution to this problem in the life of the High Priest who plea to Absolute for the solution of the problem with the security of self-sacrifice. This understanding becomes another foundation of his work. The third stage of Yun, Dongju coincides with Fowler's Faith Developmental Stage 5. The year 1941 to the time before he moved to Japan in 1942, he appreciates the use of symbols, mythologies, and rituals at the deeper level and deepens his understanding of their true meanings. In Scary Time, Dongju becomes aware of the nearness of his death and devotes himself to the writing of poems deepening the understanding of the true self. The poems A Snowing Map, The Cross, Another Morning of Genesis, The Night Observed After Returning Home, Until the Dawn Comes, The Wind Blows, Going with Eyes Closed, Another Hometown, The Way, The Star-Counting Night, Prelude, Liver, Confessions reveal various attitudes of Christian lifestyle and let him understand and accept them. During this stage, the newly coming fundamental aspects of his poems include the restoration of the true self(spiritual self) and the hope of resurrection and equip him to overcome death. The fourth phase of his works coincides with the 6th stage of Fowler’s theory: He experiences the incarnation of destiny by uniting with the truth. The unity of the self and ram(true self) is fulfilled in The White Shadow and his sincere desire for the soon coming of a character who can conquer the meaninglessness of existence is found in Flowing Street. Additionally, Dongju finds a great delight at the hope of the new world in Spring. Lastly, the unity of the self and the true self is accomplished in An Easily-written Poem. Dongju finally learns that the path of the true self is the path of sacrifice. But he eventually sheds tears of joy and inspiration through the unity gotten at the end of the long lasting conflicts. His true self refers to the spiritual self of the born-again person and leads the life which realizes salvation in reality to sacrifice. We can be sure of his arriving at the 6th developmental stage here. The sentiment we find in his works during this time indicate the completeness of his spiritual maturity, a life led by the Holy Spirit and the philosophy of Jesus' second coming. As mentioned above, the fundamental aspects of Dongju's poems aim to complete the spiritual life guided by the ritual of Christian death, the present aspect of salvation, the ministry of the High Priest soliciting with the security of sacrifice, the Second Coming of Jesus, the hope of resurrection, and the Holy Spirit. Dongju confesses his accomplishment of the 6th stage of the Faith Development and objectifies the superiority and the greatness of his spirit. His finding of the great role model as the life transformer at an early age shows the importance of the proper education that gives young people right role models.
