This study is aimed at examining the difference practices of Middle School Physical Education(P·E.) Teachers in relation to Dance Education.
For this analysis, 12 Middle School P·E Teachers (from 12 difference schools) were interviewed; six of whom majored in Physical Education, and six of whom majored in Dance Education.
The results of the study showed that there was an immense difference between the schools participating in the School Culture and Art Education Program, and those not teaching the program and without any experience with dance.
It was demonstrated that the group who majored in P·E tended to exclude dance from their teaching schedules due to their lack of experience with dance education. However, a few of the teachers who majored in P·E were able to solve the difficulties of teaching dance by participating in the School Culture and Art Education Program. In addition, it was shown that the teachers who are participating in the School Culture and Art Education Program or had observed a dance class, recognized the importance and benefits of teaching dance as part of their curriculum, and the problems they have with their own "in-house" dance programs.
In conclusion, it seems that dance education has been developing gradually despite some negative views of dance education. P·E. teachers and schools need to recognize the importance and benefits of teaching dance, and teach it as a subject, separate from P·E.
