Earlier studies of mid-program ad have mostly dealt with the introduction of mid-program commercial into terrestrial TV from the standpoint of admen. It's reported that 50 to 70 percent of the public take a dismal view of mid-program commercial, but few studies have ever centered around the attitude of ordinary viewers who are the final receivers. The purpose of this study was to examine the attitude of people in general and admen toward the introduction of mid-program commercial into cable TV and terrestrial TV. The subjects in this study were 236 people who included ordinary people and admen. A survey was conducted to find out their use of the media, attitude to cable TV mid-program commercial, and attitude to the introduction of terrestrial TV mid-program commercial. And then the attitude of the admen to the introduction of mid-program commercial in terrestrial TV was compared to that of other admen investigated in earlier studies. The major findings of the study were as follows: First, both of the people in general and admen had a liking for terrestrial TV, the Internet and cable TV. As for motivation of watching TV, they found terrestrial TV interesting, and both groups took a dim view of cable TV, regarding it as sensational. Second, both of the people in general and admen considered cable TV mid-program commercial to be more effective and draw more attention than its pre- and post-program commercial. But some viewed it unfavorably on the ground that mid-program commercial cut off the flow of viewing. Third, both of the people in general and admen took a stand against the introduction of terrestrial TV mid-program commercial. Fourth, the finding that the admen didn't look at the introduction of mid-program commercial in an unfavorable manner run counter to that of earlier studies that other admen consented to that. Given the overall findings of this study, mid-program commercial might remain longer in the memory of viewers than pre- and post-program ads, but that might get them irritated or make a negative impression on them at the same time. Therefore more thorough experimental research should be implemented to acquire accurate information on the attitude of receivers from diverse angles.
