The natural pigments have an advantage that they do not harm the human body or environments. Also, they have a merit that one can enjoy their natural and various colors which are changing constantly. The current study aims to embody natural colors which can be obtained from natural plants, and we hope that it will be of help the research of healthy nails through the study of nail colorings. The present paper is to find out the methods of extraction and coloring that are harmless to nails using natural materials. Diverse natural colors have been obtained based on spectrophotometric analysis of original colors that various natural materials have. In addition, through spectrophotometric analysis, colors were compared according to Munsell color system. First, in this study, we made experiments whether or not nails were colored with 27 diverse natural materials which could be got easily around us using certain mordant(alum) by hour(1 hour, 5 hours and 10 hours). Second, as a result of the tests, the original colors, brown, red, yellow (tropaeolum) and orange(carrot) that natural materials such as the henna, pomegranate, tropaeolum and carrot etc have had possibilities to be colored into nails. Third, by adding a mordant(alum), we could see that nail coloring time was reduced and change in colors was identified as well. Fourth, few various colors of natural materials were colored as their original ones were. Since the natural materials have B-carotene and other dye substances, it is assumed that the chemistry of color change was possible. As a result, through experiments to verify the effects of substances of natural materials, we proposed the boundless potentialities for healthy nail research using them and possibilities of using what we learned from the tests as basic data.
