The current eco-friendly cosmetics market is developing rapidly. However, nail product is still contained the chemically toxic ingredients, thereby doing harm to a person's health. Accordingly, this researcher aims to seek for safe and harmless natural dye stuffs available for dyeing in nail, not the chemically-compounded nail enamel product, and to examine whether dyeing of using it is available for nail. Thus, the aim was to research into possibility of being developed into eco-friendly nail dye stuffs, by discovering diverse colors peculiar to tradition through dyeing the natural dye stuffs. First of all, it calculated the average color difference by measuring color on 54 nails prior to dyeing, and selected Madder(Scientific name: Rubia cordifolia), Coccinella, Sappan Wood(Scientific name: Caesalpinia sappan. L), Turmeric(Scientific name: Curcuma longa Linn?), Gardenia(Scientific name: Gardenia jasminoides Ellisf.), and Wormwood(Scientific name: Artemisia princeps Nakai), which are excellent natural dye stuffs in the dyeing property of animal fibers such as silk fabrics and wool, by considering protein ingredient in nail. The dye stuffs in the powder form were used in dyeing by being diluted with the distilled water. The natural dye stuffs in the dried medicinal-ingredient status was heated in the distilled water, was extracted dye bath, was reheated to be concentrated, and was used the obtained dye bath in dyeing. As for a dyeing condition, it saw the dyeing status by passage of time(30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes) by dyeing after non-mordanting and pre-mordanting, and obtained the results of color difference by dyeing the simultaneous mordant by mordant concentration(0%, 0.4%, 4%). The following are the results, which were shown to have a big change in color difference before and after dyeing in nail dyeing of natural dye stuffs. In the dyeing of Madder(Scientific name: Rubia cordifolia), the color difference was indicated to be the largest in 90 minutes of the dying time in dye bath after pre-mordanting. Even in the dyeing of Coccinella, the color difference was indicated to be large in 90 minutes after pre-mordanting. And, the dyeing of Sappan Wood(Scientific name: Caesalpinia sappan. L) was indicated to have the largest color difference in the dyeing of simultaneous mordant in 0.4%. The dyeing of Turmeric(Scientific name: Curcuma longa Linn?) was indicated to have the largest color difference in the dyeing of simultaneous mordant in mordant concentration of 4%. The highest color difference was indicated in 90 minutes of non-mordanting for the dyeing of Gardenia(Scientific name: Gardenia jasminoides Ellisf.) and in simultaneous mordant of 0% for Wormwood(Scientific name: Artemisia princeps Nakai). As a result of dyeing nail by using natural dye stuffs through experiment of this study, a change in color difference was shown in both the nail before dyeing and the nail after dyeing. Thus, natural dye stuffs were confirmed to be available for the dyeing in the nail. And, even in the dyeing of nail like the dyeing of fiber, the big change in color difference was confirmed in the dyed nail after pre-mordanting. Also, even in the dyeing of simultaneous mordant for convenience of dyeing, a change in color difference was indicated. Thus, the dyeing method of simultaneous mordant, which dyes simply and efficiently, was confirmed to be possible, not the complicated dyeing method. This is a study that attempted the dyeing in nail by searching for dye stuffs available for dyeing in nail among natural dye stuffs and by designing the scientific dyeing condition. What closely examines characteristics of coloring or chemical combination in nail protein will be the contents of future task. This basic study is expected to be utilized as basic data for developing eco-friendly nail product, which was excluded the toxic chemical substances in the future, and is aimed further to contribute to development in nail industry.
