Recently there have been many reports on media on abuse among people who are dating and according to prior research data, it can be seen that there are many different types of violence in dating relationships. People believe that within normal dating relationships, there would be no violence because dating violence seems like covert form of abuse but unlike the common belief, there is a soaring number of reports on dating abuse. Dating violence does not stop while dating but it can escalate to domestic violence and spouse violence and it can definitely spread to become a serious domestic violence case. In Social Studies Theories, domestic violence has many negative effects on children in the household because they too can have much effect on their attack and assault nature. According to studies, children who are domestic violence victims have a violent characteristic in their adult lives. This is a theory behind “the relationship between generations of violent families.” Therefore through this research, I have studied the experience in domestic violence among college students and understood the effects on dating violence. I also have planned to find out the determinants on dating violence actions and tried to prevent further violence and help to achieve welfare of the society. For this research, I have conducted a survey among seniors in college centered on the city of Gwang-Ju. In order to analyze the materials, I have used the SPSS 12.0 program. The research results are as follows. First of all, there were 37.2% of dating violence and there were more possibilities of dating violence if the person has a religion, the longer the relationship was, the higher the age, the more the person had a violent experience, the more a person had physical experience, and the more the person has seen his or her mother being abused by the father figure. Secondly, there were 10.1% of dating physical violence, and there were more possibilities of dating physical violence if the person had more experience in physical violence and has seen his or her mother being physically abused by the father figure. There are the following implications on social services through this research. First of all, it is crucial for people to be educated on the fact that there are many incidents of dating violence and it is possible for anyone to experience this violence therefore it is possible to have many victims. In order to prevent dating violence from reoccurring, there should be more PR actions through mass media, local communities, and citizen groups to educate people and to spread information about ways to prevent violence and how to treat victims in case of violence. It is important for the victims to know what kinds of services there are for them. Second of all, it is clear that children who have actually experienced domestic violence have more chance of committing dating violence therefore it is crucial for social services to reach out to those children. Additionally there should be parent classes designed to educate the parents regarding the correct ways of raising their children and prevent further domestic violence. Thirdly, it is necessary to create violence prevention services and provide a system of delivering information on dating violence and other violence that can occur in different types of relationships. It is important to change the image of violence and create violence prevention programs and prevention measurement programs to educate people on violence and prevent people from further being affected negatively by violence.
