The Effects of a Drawing-Meditation Program on Physical and Psychological Symptoms of the People with Cardiovascular Disease원문보기

The purpose of this study is to see what effects a drawing-mediation program can induce on physical and psychological symptoms of the people with cardiovascular diseases. Study subjects are composed of 28 adults, all selected from A community welfare center in D city, who were diagnosed as or suspicious of having cardiovascular disease. None of the subjects, consisting of the control group of 14 and experimental group of 14, completed the whole series of the program sessions. After eliminating those who missed more than twice of the program sessions, only 25 out of 28 were finally chosen as the subjects to be analyzed for the study. The experimental group was given a total of 15 sessions from July 14 through September 1 after confirming that both the control group and the experimental group were of homogeneity. The place for the program sessions was a lecture room of A community welfare center, which was well ventilated and well lighted keeping the temperature of 23-24 degrees with 60% humidity. The sessions were made during 10am through 12pm for two hours in the order of 20 minutes of introduction, 20 minutes of preparatory meditation, 10 minutes of rest, 50 minutes of concentrated meditation, and 20 minutes of insightful meditation. Blood pressure and the number of heart beats were measured in order to check the physical symptoms through 'patient health questionnaire' while stress scale were measured through 'stress response inventory' as for the psychological symptoms. Data collected were analyzed by SPSSWIN 12.0, in which adopted are independent t-test for homogeneity of the pretests for both groups; percentile through frequency analysis for general characteristics of each of the control and experimental groups; repeated measure ANOVA for physico-psychological symptoms or changes according to the group and test time measured; and Tukey's multiple comparisons for simple main effects and interaction effects according to the group and the test time assessed. The results obtained by the study are as follows. First, as to the physical symptoms of cardiovascular patients on 'patient health questionnaire', the drawing meditation program proves to be statistically significant in improving blood pressure, the number of heartbeat, main effects of the group and the test time, and interaction effects between the test times. Second, as to the psychological symptoms of cardiovascular patients on 'stress response inventory', the drawing meditation program turns out to be statistically significant with main effects of the group, main effects of the test time, and interaction effects between the test times.
