This study investigated actual conditions of professional domestic violence counselors’ case management role performance, and the factors influencing the role performance. The survey participants were counselors in Women’s Emergency Call 1366 Center in 16 provinces, domestic violence counseling centers, shelters for domestic violence victims, and institutional facilities for female single-parent families in Busan and Ulsan in Gyeongsangnam-do, and the final subjects were 238. According to the survey, actual conditions of case management are as follows. Domestic violence counselors perceived their knowledge of case management highly. In terms of case management knowledge sources, they mostly acquired knowledge through courses of college. Regarding the person in charge of case management, 47.4%(111) of respondents said that professional domestic violence counselors should take care of case management. With regards to whether they now perform case management, 60.1%(143) answered that they didn’t perform it. The reasons for that is firstly ‘they don’t have sufficient political, practical preparation to perform case management’, and secondly ‘they have too much workload now to perform it’. They mostly have a difficulty in conducting case management. In terms of the need of case management, most professional domestic violence counselors perceive the importance of roles of case management positively. According to the survey on the actual situations of case management among domestic violence counselors, direct role performance was highly shown while indirect role performance was low. Next, this study analyzed the study models about whether there is a difference in case management role performance according to professional domestic violence counselors’ general characteristics, whether job satisfaction and professionalism affects case management role performance, and then it verified hypotheses. Based on the hypotheses, the following results are summarized. First, regarding direct role performance, a sub-factor of professional domestic violence counselors’ case management role performance, there were differences in age and working years. Licenses showed differences according to the kinds partially. Indirect role performance, another sub-factor of case management role performance showed differences according to age, academic background, working years, and centers. Licenses showed differences according to the kinds partially. Second, this study investigated the effects of professional domestic violence counselors’ job satisfaction on case management role performance after controlling their general characteristics. According to the result, their job itself affected both direct and indirect role performance. Workload and supervision didn’t affect direct role performance but affected indirect role performance. Third, the survey on the effects of professionalism on case management role performance showed that professional attitude had an effect on both direct and indirect case management role performance. Professional ability affected direct role performance but didn’t affect indirect role performance. Institutional and practical implications based on the findings are as follows. First, it is the institutional aspect. Even though professional domestic violence counselors perceived the need of case management, they have difficulties in adopting it institutionally without abundant discussion and review about case management. Therefore, to apply case management to practical fields for the prevention of domestic violence, local community protection environments, institutional supports, and political methods are established. Second, it is the practical aspect. The work identity of social workers should be formed in the actual fields for the prevention of domestic violence. Domestic violence counselors serve as a risk arbitrator, a counselor, and a coordinator, an appraiser in terms of intervention in domestic violence victims. This shows characteristics of the most social welfare approach among academic fields. Therefore, putting case management into practice as a social welfare intervention is required. However, role performance as a case manager may be different from qualities of service according to domestic violence counselors’ professional capability. Therefore, domestic violence counselors need to serve as an expert by strengthening their ability through multilateral methods including supervision and the reeducation process.
