The purpose of this research is to examine the factors and psychosocial phenomenon in self-alienation, and to find the ways to cure the pastor's wives who express self-alienation. For this research, seven pastor's wives have been selected among the members of the group 'Vision Sarah 21' who have showed high in self-alienation scale. The data collected from the in-depth interviews with the selected participants have been analyzed qualitatively according to the phenomenological method of Colaizzi. Research results are summerized as follows; First, the formation of self-alienation resulted from confusion of self-identity relating to expectation of role, from alienation and isolation experienced through malfunction of the original family members, from anger and frustration caused due to husband and by lack of sexual intimacy with husband, from fear and the feeling of being victimized formed in fellowship with others, from loss of right of choice and having no right of decision-making in current life, from mal-adaptation to the church community and from internalized difficulties in spiritual growth. Second, cognitive characteristics of psychological phenomenon of self-alienation are found to be the fallacy of recognition of others, automatist thinking, negatively personalized thought, maximization or minimization due to confliction and confusion of thought. And emotional characteristics are found to be negative self-image, lack of intimacy, feeling of wretchedness, loneliness, languor, feeling of abandonment, guilty conscience and intensification of distortion of depression and anxiety. Third, cognitive fallacies and emotional distortion of the participants are found to have a strong influence on current life. Lack of cognitive and emotional capability exerted an influence on the body and their behavior and resulted in longing and craving not satisfied because of the lack of sense of being. The participants were found to act in an oppressive and evasive way in relationship with others and suffered from difficulties in communication with others due to the lack of communication language. Fourth, participants did not receive continuous spiritual provision and opportunities to reflect on the self before or after their marriage. This lack of psychological substitution made it hard for the participants to get out of the self-alienation, and aggravated self-alienation. But in order to recover from this self-alienation, the participants wanted to make a spiritual recovery through prayers and Word of God, make a relational recovery through the fellowship with pastor's wives and through share and confession with the supply groups, find self-identity through consulting at the individual and group level and extend their recognition. They came to understand others by realizing distorted recognition of and emotional reaction of herself through the consulting process and have a good prospect for treatment of and restoration from self-alienation due to the extension of relationship with God and neighbors. In conclusion, the psychosocial phenomenon of self-alienation which the pastor's wives experience resulted not only from the situations of marital life with current pastor, but also from the psychological problems of self-identity shaped by accumulated shame since childhood and from the social situations of unconcern and indifference which the pastor's wife experience. In the long run, this kind of psychosocial self-alienation resulted in distortion in the fields of sense of being, recognition and emotion. So for treatment of and restoration from self-alienation, first of all, inner problems of the self which have been experienced through the process of her life in her original family members, should be found and dealt with, and the focus should be maintained on the recovery of relationship with husband, church community and God. One of the greatest significance of this research is that Christian Counseling plays an important role in the restoration from the self-alienation for the pastor's wives. The counseling was found to be an instrument for helping the pastor's wives to get a whole and integral restoration. During this counseling process, the participants were found to have realized and acknowledged their problems, and were able to get the power to restore themselves. The participants could re-experience the problems unsolved in the past through the meeting with the support group of pastor's wives and promote the growth of the inner life through the restructuring their life. This research resulted in providing in-depth understanding and possibility of treatment of and restoration from self-alienation.
