This study aims to suggest more appropriate methods of skin peeling, which is one of the methods to recover skin blemishes, by researching preference levels and states of usages by ages, and interest and knowledge levels. First of all, to research preferences of skin peeling, we surveyed the preferences among dermatologic clinic, skin care center, and self-treatment, and usage forms, and after-treatment. And, we purposed to provide useful information for developing skin care programs by analyzing the association and correlation between interest and knowledge levels by ages. We also wanted to provide information to make skin peeling more systematic and reasonable by searching more efficient treatment practices. For the purpose, we surveyed 400 women who reside in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do,and collected data, and analyzed a total of 398 questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Science WIN 12.0) program.
The results from this research are as follows: First, the women in ages 20-30 preferred crystal and diamonds methods used in dermatology clinics, and enzyme peeling used in skin care centers, and gel-type used in self-treatment, relatively to other methods. In 40-50 ages, women showed more preference about sea-weed method in skin care centers, and scrub method in self-treatment. Second, we researched usage states and after-treatment. We found that skin care centers are main buyers of skin care products. The women in 20-30 ages answered most that they use peeling products once a week, but in 40-50 ages they answered most that they use them just occasionally when need. The difference between two groups was significant. And, 87.9% of respondents answered that they consider the after-treatment of peeling important. And 39.7% replied that they experienced adverse effects after skin cares. When we examined the usage states of sunscreens, vitamin and water takings, and special function product usages, we found that after-treatments are not performed well. Third, most women thought that skin peeling had some effects(91.5%). Mean 47.2% of the respondents experienced AHA. In the group of 20-30 ages, 76.5% experienced AHA, but in 40-50, just 18.2% experienced that. The difference of two groups was significant. Fourth, when we examined the correlation between interest and knowledge levels and skin peeling awareness, it was revealed that as women read the product descriptions and see how to use the products more and more, they have higher levels of knowledge about skin care. For the sources of their information, it appeared that they have higher levels of skin care knowledge when they were given information from dermatology clinics, skin care center, or mass media, than from their family, friends, peer groups, or internet. And better aware they are of peeling, higher levels of knowledge they have. In the 21stcentury, as people have more and more interests and expectations about their skins, dermatologic clinicians, skin care specialists, and the industry are changing. Clinicians, who perform therapies, have to reduce adverse effects to the minimum. Skin care specialists have to approach to their customers by correct information, trainings, and safe treatment. In the industry of skin care products, they should make efforts to provide more safe and systematic products and skin programs. Although we admit the limit of this study that it lacks sufficient literary study, we expect this study to serve basic material for customer management of skin peeling that is a method to recover skin blemishes, in medical, esthetic and cosmetic industry. And further studies are necessary about the points what we didn’t address.
