The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of music activities through body movement on early children's ability in creative physical expression and self-regulation. A total of 50 children aged 4 and 5 attending a "Y" kindergarten located in Daegu were selected as an experimental group and a control group, of 25 children each. The suggested problems in this study were as follows: 1. What impact do music activities through body movement have on the children's ability in creative physical expression? 1-1. How will music activities through body movement influence diversity of motions? 1-2. How will music activities through body movement have an effect on orientation? 1-3. How will music activities through body movement affect timing? 1-4. How will music activities through body movement have an impact on flow variation? 1-5. How will music activities through body movement influence expressivity? 2. What impact do music activities through body movement have on the children's self-regulation? 2-1. How will music activities through body movement using affect self-control? 2-2. How will music activities through body movement using effect on impulse control? 2-3. How will music activities through body movement using influence attention concentration? Kim Eun-sim (1994)'s creative physical expression instrument was used to measure the creative physical expression ability, and Lee Ji-hyun (2001)'s self-regulation test made by adapting Kendall and Wilcox's self-regulation test was used for measuring self-regulation. Music activities through body movement were conducted with the experimental group 16 times in 8 weeks from March 9 to April 30, 2010 while music activities without body movement in「Kindergarten Guide」for the teacher according to the 2007 revised kindergarten curriculum were performed in the control group. Data were analyzed using a repeated measures analysis of variance(Repeated Measures ANOVA). The conclusions gained from the results were as follows: First, music activities through body movement have an impact on young children's ability in creative physical expression. Moreover, they showed significant results in diversity, orientation, timing, flow variation, and expressivity of motions among subordinate territories of children's creative physical expression ability. In other words, music activities through body movement is an effective teaching strategy to improve young children's creative physical expression ability. Second, the results show music activities through body movement greatly influence the self-regulation. In particular, it exerted an influence on self-control, impulse, and attention concentration among subordinate factors of self-regulation. Therefore, music activities through body movement is a strategy for effective teaching to promote self-regulation. This study suggests that music activities through body movement can be successfully applied to the field of an early child education.
