This study has the purpose of describing the difference between '-go' and '-eoseo', conjunctive endings expressing a sequence of events, deductively and presenting the uses that tell two things apart. To this end, uses to tell the difference between '-go' and '-eoseo' were presented by analyzing corpus of the Korean language textbook, learners and native speakers.
First, in the analysis of the Korean language textbook corpus, the textbook explains the difference between '-go' and '-eoseo' with 'affinity' and 'relevancy'. Since such 'affinity' and 'relevancy' are concepts difficult for Korean language learners to understand, it takes the usage to tell the difference between '-go' and '-eoseo'. Consequently, usages presented by the study of Korean language education were summarized into four kinds. It explains that '-go' is used for 'transitive verb, when action has been finished and when two actions are not directly related to each other', while '-eoseo' is used for 'intransitive verb, when action is continued after the end of it, when two actions are directly related to each other and when the preceding element of antecedent clause is repeated in the following clause'. However, as a result of applying this usage to hearing and reading texts in the elementary textbook of Korean, many examples were found to be against it, telling the necessity for presenting the usage in more detail.
Then, in the analysis of Korean language learner corpus, it was revealed that for all from basic to advanced levels '-go' shows a higher error rate than '-eoseo'. For '-go', error rate shown to be the highest at an intermediate level decreases at an advanced level. This is similar to the general aspect of language acquisition for learners. That is, it shows the aspect of acquisition where some errors are shown while using '-go' at a basic level, most active errors at an intermediate and then they are reduced back to stabilize at an advanced level. 'It is seen that '-eoseo' shows the highest error at a basic level and then errors are reduced at an intermediate level and after, which is considered because compared with '-go', the meaning has a marked characteristic. Besides, it was found that for '-go', errors chiefly appear in numbers in combining with intransitives such as 'ga-da (to go), o-da (to come), and-da (to sit), i-reo-na-da (to rise)', etc. and transitive verbs such as 'man-na-da (to meet), man-deul-da (to make), sa-da (to buy), sseu-da (to use), chat-da (to find), etc., while for '-eoseo', errors chiefly appear in combining with transitive verbs such as 'meok-da' (to eat), 'bo-da' (to see), 'ta-da' (to ride), etc.
Lastly, among corpus of Korean native speakers, usage was extracted by selecting fifteen novels to present the usage to tell the difference between '-go' and '-eoseo' in divisions of intransitive and transitive sentence patterns. This produced five uses for intransitive verb patterns and four uses for transitive verb patterns. First, a cognate objective verb and action intransitive verb used in an intransitive verb sentence pattern express a sequence of events by taking '-go' and express means and manner by taking '-eoseo'. Posture change verb expresses keeping the posture by taking '-eoseo' but not if taking '-go'. Movement verb expresses an act in the same place by taking '-eoseo' but not if taking '-go'. 'Ta-da' expressing the manner of moving takes '-go' while 'geot-da(to walk)', 'ddui-da(to run)', etc. take '-eoseo'. Also, symmetrical verb 'man-na-da(to meet)' expresses the sharing of the same noun between preceding and following clauses by taking '-eoseo' but not if taking '-go'. Next, in transitive sentence pattern, usage to tell '-go' and '-eoseo' apart was presented in four kinds. Most transitive verbs such as 'meok-da' (to eat) and 'ma-shi-da' (to drink) express a sequence of events by taking '-go' and express means and manner by taking '-eoseo'. Aspect verb, utterance verb, etc. express the finish of action by taking '-go' and express the maintenance of action by taking '-eoseo'. However, Verbs such as 'an-dda' (to hug), 'deul-da' (to hold), 'jab-da' (to take)' and 'geol-da' (to hang), 'not-ta' (to put), 'doo-da' (to lay) express the maintenance of action by taking '-go' and express the change of action by taking '-eoseo'. Lastly, verbs such as 'dak-da' (to wipe), 'gri-da' (to draw) and verbs such as 'man-na-da' (to meet), 'booreuda' (to call) express sharing the same object between preceding and following clauses by taking '-eoseo' but not if taking '-go'.
