Interfacial reaction of Li ion battery is very important since all reaction of battery occur at this interface such as formation of solid interface electrolyte and intercalation/ deintercalation of Li+ ion. Therefore, many research have focused to improve this interfacial reaction. In this study, firstly, to improve this interfacial reaction, 1,3,5-trifluroobenze (TFB) was added in liquid electrolyte as an additive, have studied about the activation energy and battery performance. As a result, the LiCoO2/Li half cell with TFB showed 5.4 kJ/mol lowed activation energy than that of the cell without TFB and showed improved rate performance even at 3.0 C rate. Secondly, as a promising tool, the scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM) has applied to study interfacial reaction of LiCoO2 substrate. The substrate, LiCoO2 without any potential, showed insulating substrate behavior and in a specific distance, under 4 m, PF6- anion’s redox reaction occurred by both tip and substrate. This experimental method could help design an optimum electrolyte composition for various substrates to be being suitable high power. Finally, to overcome a demerit of polymer electrolyte, poor surface reaction between polymer and electrode, monomers with low viscosity at pre-gel state and having good adhesive properties were studied to improve interfacial reaction. The cell with gel polymer electrolyte showed improved battery performance in rate cycling caused by improved interfacial contact ability between electrode and electrolyte. This result was matched up with electrochemical impedance spectroscopy data in that after rate cycling, as repeated cycling the cell with gel polymer electrolyte showed lowered charge transfer resistance and bulk resistance than that of the cell before rate cycling.
