The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between the intimacy of the teacher-student, student satisfaction with teaching skills development and to find adequate results ways to take advantage of student satisfaction.
To find out the correlation between intimacy with teacher and student and the student satisfaction rating for teacher evaluation for professional development, the research problems are as follows:
First, are there any differences between the students' scores that they actually evaluated and the students' scores that they wanted to evaluate teachers' skills through student satisfaction ratings for teacher evaluations for professional development?
Second, according to background variables of teachers and students, are there any differences in the development of teachers' abilities to evaluate student satisfaction?
Third, does emotional, and behavioral intimacy make a difference according to teachers and students background variables?
Fourth, what is the relationship between the intimacy of the teacher-student and student satisfaction with teaching skills development?
To investigate these research problems, Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province and the neighboring (Haman) Middle School, conducted a survey of 800 people and recovered 774 of 792 copies which were used as the statistical unit. Survey tools; teachers-students used the intimacy question from Cronbach' paper .963. The independent sample t-test (independent t-test), analysis of variance bisecting e-way (ANOVA), and the Scheffe statistic were used as the way to analyze. Pearson's correlation coefficients were presented to find out the correlation between the intimacy of the teacher-student and student satisfaction with teaching skills development as conducted by correlation analysis.
The results of this study are as follows:
First, student satisfaction scores were higher than normal.
Second, according to background variables of teachers and students, the Teacher Skills Assessment student satisfaction (tutoring, life guidance) showed significant differences. Satisfaction for the male teachers, teachers between 20 and 50, and teachers in charge of the Arts and Physical Education were highly valued.
Third, emotional and behavioral intimacy showed significant differences according to teacher and student background variables. A sense of intimacy was higher for the Male teachers, teachers who are in their 20s and 50s, and teachers in charge of the Arts and Physical Education.
Fourth, emotional and behavioral intimacy between teachers - students showed a high static correlation with the Teacher Skills Assessment student satisfaction.
Based on the results of this study are as follows:
First, professional assessment by students as an objective indicator is not correct because the Teacher Skills Assessment student satisfaction rating, assesses subjectively with some errors such as the leniency error, the halo error, and the standard error. Therefore, it is more preferable to survey student satisfaction according to the relationship between teacher - student than for class as a professional area in middle schools.
Second, professional evaluation specialists who have professional insights and lessons on teaching and life guidance, who fully understand the complex and specific context, are needed for better understanding. Teachers think a ‘good lesson' should be based on the instruction-learning theory and advance students' creative thoughts. On the other hand, students expect that a ‘good lesson' should be fun and enjoyable, students' parents expect that lessons should help students' achievement. Therefore, there are some limitations when students evaluate lessons in the professional areas because they have immature judgment.
Third, emotional and behavioral intimacy was higher when the teachers are in their 20s and 50s who have an open, generous mind, are male teachers, or teachers in charge of Arts and Physical Education and who are closer in age to students.
This implies that there is a for awareness towards a transition for the authoritarian, oppressive and controlled of an leadership of some teachers. Teachers need to make more effort towards personal and positive relationships with their students. Various education and training programs should be provided for this to expand human relationship capacities.
Fourth, intimacy between Teachers-Students showed the positive correlation with the Teacher Skills Assessment student satisfaction. Therefore, teachers and students' emotional and behavioral intimacy can be an important factor for enhancing the quality of education.
Finally, objective evaluation criteria should be required to diagnosis the relationship between teachers and students. Transitions between the teacher-student relationship should also be required to expand the teacher-student relationship capacity through various education and training programs. The time of counseling class should be secured legally.
Teachers are the mediators in the world of relationships between teachers and students, at the same time, they perform these relationships by themselves in the school field.
When teachers make good, reliable, and respectful relationships with students, school education can raise its competitiveness.
