Traditional patterns are one of the processing means for decorative crafts. They were first used in primitive society while they are widely used in different nations all over the world at present. They indirectly indicate features of each nation and imply ethnic quintessence. Furthermore, traditional patterns are closely related to human life such as architecture, art, culture, religion, etc. China is geographically near Korea, so there are deep ties in many fields as they grow and develop in the same cultural circle. In this case, many similar factors are included in shapes of patterns or the signification they represent. For example, those patterns in Korean apparel are introduced from China through communication and become current styles with unique changes. There are patterns with peony, lotus, arabesque and dragon, etc which are representative and are still widely used up till now. Hence, this paper studies traditionally representative locus-patterns, which aims at targets of using locus-pattern popularly designed at present and developing the potential market of locus-patterns which are widely used in future popular designs. This paper makes research by studying literature, analyzing theoretical features of locus-pattern and creating works of locus-pattern so as to realize the styles, aesthetics, utility, and functions pursued by current designs. It is an empirical research which perfectly integrates tradition with modern societies. Conclusions of this study are as follows: Firstly, there are no great differences between patterns of China and Korea. Meanwhile, traditional patterns in China can be divided into five categories: patterns with animals, plants, geometry, auspicious words, and astronomical phenomenon; while traditional patterns in Korea are divided into the first four categories. Secondly, traditional symbolic patterns in China and Korea are lotus patterns which signify great mercy and compassion, offspring, successful imperial examinations, purity, resurrection, and Buddhism. Decorative patterns for drawing, porcelain, architecture, fabrics and folk paintings, etc have been very popular long before. Besides, according to different expressing methods, decorative patterns in China are categorized as shapes with entire branches, broken branches, knotted lotus etc. while those in Korea are divided into shapes with broken branches, units, and antigonon leptopus, etc. Thirdly, in cases of expressing modern popular lotus patterns, there are no great differences of those in China and Korea. Additionally, Korean lotus patterns are mostly expressed in shapes of units while shapes of broken branches and antigonon leptopus are also widely used in popular designs. But in China, shapes of knotted lotus are used most, while those of entire and broken branches are used relatively less frequent. Fourthly, there are eight categories of lotus patterns, among which five of them are in China and the left are in Korea. These eight patterns are flexibly used to be in line with modern feeling and for deformation and designs. There are ten works altogether: a T-shirt, a pair of jeans, a shirt, two ties, three dresses. Therefore, through this process, this research flexibly applies widely used traditional lotus patterns which can represent China and Korea to make them be in line with modern feeling and carry out deformation and designs. By analyzing lotus patterns, they will be adapt to modern vogues to show their possibility and potential of being applied in real life and created new cultural value.
