A Study on the Development of Food Tourism in Jeonju, Korea

This study suggested the ways to develop food tourism, and this will be anticipated to solve outstanding problems of agriculture, rural and food industry in Korea.
The theory of local food tourism was reviewed. Endogenous growth theory, location theory, and local branding theory are explained.
This study identified the item, theme, and the product as being the important factors of food tourism, More specifically, the items included Korean traditional foods, Korean traditional beverages-drinks, seasoning- side dishes, and fusion cuisine-snack.
This paper suggested four appropriate models chosen in this study, which were Korean traditional food for well-being, functional tractional drink, local seasoning-side dishes, and oriental medicine for health. Those demonstrated not only related-cases of each model but also the role of the organization including enterprise, corporation, community, governance and franchise business association.
Case study in Jeonju, Korea finds that Jeonju is already famous for its Korean food and has the possibility for a food city in the world. Visitors say the high satisfaction for Jeonju food and the major factor is the taste of Jeonju food, varieties of side dishes and raw material quality of food.
The strategy and direction of Jeonju food are (1) high quality wel-being foods and strong power of brand different from other cities, (2)integration with the various Jeonju festivals and unique traditional cultures of Jeonju. And the line pricing instead of the cheap food is needed for the local income increasing.
As the result of food tourism development, Jeonju food globalization and traditional culture promotion through Korean Style Strategy should be new chances of Jeonju Soft Power introduction in the world.
This study is experimental research in Jeonju. Other research should be tried for the generalization of its findings.
