Tic disorder, defined as imperfection of restrained functioning of exercise, perception, emotion, behavior, is a complicated disease. Various types of motor tics and vocal tics are considered as the most important diagnostic symptoms, but it should also be contemplated that the problem could occur in tic disorder judgment or cure process accompanied by ADHD, impulsiveness, OCD, and extra emotion or behavior matter. The number of children who suffer from tic disorder is increasing annually, however the most common treatment in current situation for the disorder is primarily based on medication. The disorder should not only be applying drug treatments but also emotional methods, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy, art therapy, learning therapy, which can relieve also tic disorder. In this research we tried to use art therapy program, which is helpful in developing freedom of expression and less defensive in contrast to other therapies, to a sophomore middle-school student who is suffering from Tourette's disorder, in an attempt to decrease tic symptom and regain one’s mental stability by relieving the teenager's anxiety and stress in means of expressing the suppressed anger. The final objective of this research is to develop an art therapy program for tic disorder patients who are distressed from obsession, declining concentration and sleep problems in order to enhance self-confidence, to recover self-esteem, and to obtund anxiety and other symptoms of tic disorder. Based on scientifically proven art therapy materials and preceding researches, we reconstructed it into 24 sessions to examine the patient's variation of symptoms. The art therapy program is divided into 3 levels; the beginning stage, the middle stage and the closing stage. In the beginning stage (from the 1st session until the 6th session), it is important to establish a 'rapport' between the curer and the patient child to help relieve stiff muscles of the child. The middle stage (from the 7th session to the 18th session) focuses on the expression of variety of feelings - one's own sorrow, pleasure, pain, etc - and self-esteem restoration and self-confidence enhancement of the patient child. The closing stage (the 19th session to the 24th session) places emphasis on ties around patient child and making positive relationships in social life. The expected result from this is as follows. Through the means of art activities one can resolve an anger, sorrow, hardness, etc and it's a rather honest way for patient child to express their unconscious thoughts and feelings outside. With group art therapy, it's a good opportunity to develop social skills and practice it. Through cooperation between peer groups, one can learn how to handle conflicts and negotiations in social relationships. Molding activities help develop fine motor skills, sight perception ability and space perceptivity. Various molding activities can also improve capacity of concentration. Furthermore, selection of complex art media and participation in molding processes can help regain confidence and pride. In the process of using various media and completing an artwork, one can experience the feeling of delight of development and it is greatly helpful to form a self-conception and improve self-confidence in the sense of accomplishment. Likewise, the art therapy program assist youths with tic disorder to enhance self-regard, positive mind, stable emotions as well as priming in amicable social activities, and furthermore, from the insight gained from therapies, one is able to control one's life and live actively.
