The aim of this study is to examine how Visual Art Classes using Process Drama have influence on the creativity of elementary school children. Process Drama is one of the methodologies in Educational Drama whereby all participants including teachers play roles by creating fictional situations and generating meanings by themselves. Process Drama which makes use of the innate predisposition of children to learn through play which involves drama in education encourages spontaneity and imagination and may be effective in developing the creativity of elementary school children. Process Drama was utilized in visual art classes in this study, as it can integrate the domains of art and several other subjects. Moreover, Process Drama is an appropriate means to develop creativity, which is one of the aims of visual art education. The specific research questions that examine the effects of visual art classes using Process Drama on the creativity of elementary children are as follows; First, Do Visual Art classes which utilize Process Drama have an influence on the creative thinking ability of elementary school children? Second, Do Visual Art classes which utilize Process Drama have influence on the creative personality of elementary school children? The research subjects of this study were 24 children of 3rd grade of Elementary School in Seoul. Following a pre-test, the research group was taught Visual Art with the proper units for using Process Drama and efforts were made also to incorporate Korean into the sessions. The instruction for 7 sessions and 20 class hours was proceeded over a total 9 weeks, from 1 September to 31 October, 2011. The test tool used was TTCT(Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking) Thinking Creativity with Words in Korean-version, which was revised in 1993 as the creative thinking ability test and was re-standardized after being edited by the Korean FPSP. The pre-test was conducted type A for the equivalent form. The post-test was carried out type B. "WKOPAY: What Kind Of Person Are You?" was used as the creative personality test. "WKOPAY:What Kind Of Person Are You?" is part of the Khatena-Torrance Creative Perception Inventory. The same WKOPAY approach was used for both the pre and post test. In order to answer the two research questions, a Paired Sample t-test was employed. The empirical analysis in this study was revealed in the significant level of all of p<.05, p<.01, p<.001. The data were analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics Evaluation Version 20. The results of data analyses are as following. First, Visual Art classes which utilize Process Drama have a positive impact on the creative thinking ability of elementary school children, and a significant difference was evident. The significant difference was indicated in Fluency, Originality, and Flexibility which are its sub-factors and these showed a higher level of change in score after Visual Art classes using Process Drama. The results revealed were of a significant level of p<.05, p<.01, p<.001. Second, Visual Art classes which utilize Process Drama have a positive influence on the creative personality of elementary school children, but a significant difference was not indicated in all of its sub-factors. No significant difference was evident in Acceptance of Authority, Self-confidence, Awareness of Others, Disciplined Imagination, they, however, some change in score was seen in these after the experiment. There was no evident change in Inquisitiveness. In conclusion, Visual Art classes using Process Drama is an effective way of developing the creativity of elementary school children. The current of process drama is verbal, and so creating the climate in which meaningful verbal expression can be generated is a key element for the development of creativity thinking, in particular verbal ability. The reason why a significant difference was not indicated in the creative propensity even though they were effective ways of developing the creative propensity is that the period of the research was too short. Furthermore, the current study has limitations regarding the selection of the research subjects, and the integration of the subjects, and the choice of the content. Therefore, further research is needed to suggest additional alternatives utilizing Process Drama including a wider range of information by increasing the number of participants and to clarify whether the a longer period of research has a positive effect on creativity.
