Consistency is the unique characteristic that can be consistently found in one's handwriting. And, discriminability is the distinguishable characteristic that can be discovered from each individual's handwriting. The handwriting analysis is a process to verify whether particular handwritings are from same person or not. At this moment, the handwriting analysis is concluded based on the experts' subjective opinions; therefore, computer-aided automation is required for the faster trial period and the objective results of the handwriting analysis. In this paper, we used two features of Hangul handwriting - the angle between two strokes and the length ratio of those - to examine the consistency and the discriminability. We extracted Hangul combinations and characters that showed high degrees of consistency and discriminability, and found that the degree of consistency was affected by various conditions: combination type, adjacent consonants and vowels, size differences, pens, and papers. Moreover, we graphically confirmed the consistency and the discriminability by the scatter diagram graph using the angle and the ratio between two strokes. Hangul handwriting shows a variation in the degree of consistency according to the combination type, adjacent consonants and vowels, size differences, combinations of pens and papers. As shown above, the statistical results and the experimental results show the possibility of the automated handwriting analysis.
