Zoltan Kodaly (1882~1967) mentioned the importance of singing on childhood music education saying, “The voice is naturally given for all people as musical instrument. Music is for all children, and music education should begin with singing. Also the singing should be started from their childhood .” Song is the easiest way to encounter music directly without having instruments which can be differentiated from the other musical area. Singing is regarded as the first area to teach in elementary music education among all music areas which can prove its importance in music education. In fact, most of children made their first experience of music by song and they develop their sensitivity and expression skills through this experience. Actually, the systematic guidance data on vocalization method of infantile song and children's body is limited in music education field on both private and public. Accordingly, most of teachers overlook the vocalization, or teach children based on the vocal method for adult. It can bring much trouble for the children who are supposed to sing happily with healthy voice and this is required for elementary music education. Specially, when upper elementary students start to break their voice, they might refuse to sing because of not having the systematic vocalization method on their vocal training. In this thesis, child vocalization was studied in general vocalization including respective anatomical human body along with posture, respiration, resonance, vocalization for appropriate vocalization through literature and preliminary research. Also the purpose of this thesis is to build the vocalization method on practical singing for children by studying common and different factors between adult and children. Additionally, it intends to select right songs for each grade from text book and children vocal ensemble songs to build the guidance plan of the vocalization method that I have studied in this thesis and to study the result of practical teaching through this guidance plan. The result of research is as follows. 1. There is difference in the vocalization that is the base of singing between adults and children. The appropriate vocalization method for children has to be in harmony between chest and head vocalization. The chest vocalization is usually used by children and the head vocalization is suggested as the ideal vocalization from the reference. Therefore, the conclusion was made that children can do natural singing without hurting their voice when they use the chest vocalization and head vocalization harmoniously in their own voice range. 2. It is necessary to have definite understanding of anatomical vocal organs to be well-acquainted with the vocalization which is the base of singing. The better result has come out from practical teaching trough the guidance on the selected songs for each respective grade with explanation about anatomical vocal organs than not having explanation to children. Additionally, this explanation allows children to have more interests in singing. 3. The vocalization method brought remarkable improvement on children's singing ability as well as confidence and interest on singing to the children using by the step-by-step guidance considering children's physical and emotional characteristic. Also, the children who used to get pressure on singing or refused to sing got interests on singing and improvement on their ability through this vocalization method and continuous practice. Finally, I hope this thesis would help those teachers and children who experience difficulty on the vocalization for children.
