A Study on the Volume of Portable Sound Systems and Background Noise For the Prevention of Hearing Loss : Focusing on the Subway Interior Noise원문보기

49dB(A), 55dB(A), 61dB(A), 67dB(A), 73dB(A), 79dB(A), 85dB(A) 7단계의 배경소음도 중 73dB(A), 79dB(A), 85dB(A)에서 청력손실의 주의가 필요하며 위험에 있는 음량으로 청취하는 인원이 다수 증가하였다.

In the past, researches on the prevention of hearing loss were focused on the laborers who are disturbed by noise that arise from factories and workplaces. Today, however, interest in the hearing loss of young generations due to new noise sources such as portable sound system is rapidly increasing. In this research, the aspect of the difference between volume of portable sound systems and background noise level to prevent hearing loss was investigated focusing on the interior noise of subway which is a daily used transportation. Standard sound level was determined by setting the default sound level and based on this, field survey and jury evaluation were carried out to present reasonable sound level of portable sound systems inside the subway. Reasonable sound level at different background noise levels and at decreased subway interior noise is also presented.
As a result of setting the default sound level, noise level of more than 85dB(A)which could lead to hearing loss was measured at over 50% of the maximum volume of sound systems. The played music files of different gender, genre, frequencies and tempo did not show a noticeable difference in terms of noise level. The noise level generally increased by 3~4dB(A) at each level increase. At the difference between the sound level and background noise of above 20~23dB(A), a magnitude of 0.1dB(A) affected the sound level while at the difference of above 9~12dB(A), a magnitude of 3~5dB(A) affected the noise level of sound.
As a result of the field survey, types of earphones did not seem to matter and 30 out of 100 people were exposed to the risk of hearing loss while inside the subway, this figure increased to 42 and therefore the proportionality between the sound level and background noise was verified. Majority were distributed at the difference between the listening volume and background noise level of above 9~12dB(A). Women were shown to be more exposed to the risk of hearing loss than men and generally women listenon lower volumes.
The result of jury evaluation shows that among the seven levels of background noise level of 49dB(A), 55dB(A), 61dB(A), 67dB(A), 73dB(A), 79dB(A) and 85dB(A), at 73dB(A), 79dB(A), 85dB(A)caution for hearing loss is needed and the number of people who listen on unsafe volumes increased. Majority were distributed at the difference between the sound level and background noise of above 9~12dB(A)and some were distributed at about 20dB(A), leading to the similar distribution observed in the field survey. It is concluded that this is related to the result of the difference between the sound of setting the default sound level and background sound level.
Based on this result, reasonable sound levels have been determined at each different background noise level. Because of the subjective responses due to the characteristics of noise, a sound level that majority listen on was stated.
As the majority were distributed at the difference between the listening volume and background noise level of above 9~12dB(A), the number of people who listen on the volume that prevents risk of hearing loss(40% of the maximum volume) is expected to increase, if the subway interior noise is reduced to 67dB(A).
