This thesis provides qualitative analysis on the recovering process from the conflict of 3 couples who have been in danger of divorce by applying Donovan's five-step-model of Short-term Object Relations Couple Therapy. Couple A and couple B went through a one-hour counseling once a week for ten weeks, and couple C went through a 90-minute counseling for nine weeks. This couple therapy consisted of 5 steps: the first step was for ‘Exploring the core fight’, done during the first and second counseling. The second step, comprising the third and fourth counseling, was for ‘Investigating the Triangle of Focus.’ The third step, which ran through the fifth to the seventh counseling, was for 'Exploring the Triangle of Conflict.' The fourth step was designed to 'Change Triangle of Conflict' during the 8th and 9th counseling. The fifth step, the tenth counseling, finally 'resolves the core fight'. This type of process was meant to make couples explore core fight, look into unconscious object relation and emotion which make up the cause of the fight, understand the dynamic relation of the couple, and then finally resolve the conflict in reality by developing their own tools and methods. The steps were roughly classified but they were carried out in relation to each other rather than separately. The counseling was recorded for the qualitative study with the agreement of the participants, and the recorded contents were rephrased into researchers' terms as much as possible. The researcher together with the other two counselors who have studied object relation theory and conducted counseling, have analyzed the participants' experiences and the process of their change on the basis of the rephrased contents. The result is as follows. First, it turned out to be helpful in resolving the conflict if the couple learns to fully express their emotion in the course of exploring the conflict (fight) even if they had oppressed the expression of their emotion before. Second, the couple A, who came to understand that their conflicts repeatedly came from the inner object relation with their origin of the family via projective identification, could escape from the recurring conflict pattern. It seems that Donovan's five step model is especially efficient for the couple who has the similar psychological tendency like couple A. Third, even though the other couples failed to recognize that the current conflicts with their spouse are heavily influenced by their past object relation with the origin of the family in the form of projective identification, they could experience positive change in the relation with their spouse by understanding them better in the course of counseling.
