This study attempted to find out the process of change in sebum and moisture and the effect and method of the product through the clinical experiment on the effect of the scalp enhancer on the seborrheic scalp. For this purpose, it attempted to identify, compare and observe the enhanced state of the scalp through the changed amount of sebum and moisture of seborrheic scalp and the filming of the scalp.
The following findings could be obtained for the scalp management effect of the dermatitis seborrheic of the scalp and the types of subjects:
An attempt was made to measure the moisture of each region of the scalp in five subjects belonging to the dry-scalp group one week and two weeks after the experiment. As a result, the following findings were obtained:
The moisture of their scalp before the experiment was found to be 4.0±2.4. The moisture of the scalp increased at 4.1±2.4 one week after the experiment and 4.8±3.2 two weeks after it.
An attempt was made to measure the moisture of each region of the scalp in five subjects belonging to the oily-scalp group one week and two weeks after the experiment. As a result, the following findings were obtained:
The moisture of their scalp before the experiment was found to be 6.8±4.1 The moisture of the scalp increased statistically significantly at 9.4±2.4 one week after the experiment and 8.9±5.8 two weeks after it(p=0.0307).
An attempt was made to measure the sebum of each region of the scalp in five subjects belonging to the dry-scalp group one week and two weeks after the experiment. The sebum before it was found to be 37.9±25.4. The sebum reduced statistically significantly at 9.0±10.1 one week after the experiment and 7.8±12.9 two weeks after it(p=0.0000).
An attempt was made to measure the sebum of each region of the scalp in five subjects belonging to the oily-scalp group one
week and two weeks after the experiment. The sebum before it was found to be 41.6±27.3 . The sebum reduced statistically significantly at 32.4±25.1 one week after the experiment and 26.2±22.2 two weeks after it(p=0.0000).
To find out the enhanced state of the scalp, this study attempted to make a comparative observation of the filmed state of the scalp at the digital scope of 300 magnification.
The scalp became reddened due to the increase of blood stream in 'c' and 'd' of the dry-scalp group. Sebum oxides were much observed in 'd'. The dead skin cell reduced since the one-week use of scalp-enhancing shampoo and dry (Q33) mist and the sebum increased slightly. The scalp began to become wet after the 2-week use of scalp-enhancing shampoo and dry(Q33) mist. Lipoperoxides were not observed overall as the deal skin cell reduced. The red colour of the scalp did not change.
The oily-scalp group had much sebum in the scalp and its pores were blocked by the accumulated lipoperoxides between pore and hair shaft. The 1-week use of scalp-enhancing shampoo and oily(Q31) mist much removed the sebum and lipoperoxides accumulated in the pore, but some dead skin cells remained between pore. The scalp had the gloss due to the presence of sebum. The 2-week use of scalp-enhancing shampoo and oily(Q31) mist showed the cleaning action of reducing lipoperoxides and dead skin cells in and around pores and reduced sebum much but did not change the red color of the scalp.
The respondents showed the moderate level of post-experiment satisfaction with the reduction of dandruff and were satisfied with itchiness. The soborrheic scalp is accompanied with itchiness, dandruff and the like and occurs much in the regions where the function of the sebaceous gland increases. The cause has not certainly been identified but is guessed to be the infection of Pityrosporum ovale resident in the skin, the hypersecretion of sebum, the environmental factor, stress, the genetic factor, the degraded immune function and the like.
It was regretable that the period of the clinical experiment was short and that it was somewhat difficult to distinguish the advantages of the effect because of the individual difference in the 2-week use of the scalp enhancers among subjects.
