In schools these days, a smart, quiet revolution is underway. The average student’s smart phone comes equipped with a small camera, an MP3 player, a PMP, an electronic dictionary, and Internet. They hold in their hands that which could be used only on the PC a decade ago. With this technology they can distribute photos and video productions, as well as, search the Internet for information. In the 21st century, we humans are living in the era of the ubiquitous information network which integrates physical space and virtual space. In light of the advent of these smart educational environments, the Korean government has announced, through the 2011 Korea Education and Research Information Service(KERIS), its smart education promotion strategy to become a Talent superpower. The development of the smart education community is currently being commercialized all through our lives with the convergence of current mobile devices and digital devices for the true meaning of the ubiquitous network. The speed of its future development will accelerate. In this infinitely changing environment, methods of education should be modified to accommodate the learning method which meets the goals of “smart education”. In this learning model, school education can easily progress by offering learning activities anytime and anywhere as well as provide students access to the various digital devices or mobile devices in their hands. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology has approved a new form of textbook which is appropriate to the smart education era while complementing the traditional format of textbooks. Beginning in 2008, the course of the study, using research on the Windows and Mac operating systems, plans to open a software-based platform for planning the development direction of digital textbooks starting in 2015, and also plans to steadily commercialize digital textbooks. Likewise, these smart devices are changing the field of education. These days students are characterized as “The Smart Generation.” Since they use the Internet and SNS freely, they are also called the “Womb Digital Generation.” “Smart Family” students get a tremendous amount of information from smart devices. Of course, there is a lot of harmful or undesirable information. However, if you only look at the negative and undesirable side, there would be nothing related to education. Therefore, we need wisdom in order to minimize the dysfunctional uses of these devices, particularly those pertaining to online relationships, while enhancing the educational functions of smart devices. In this study, we are looking for a smart concept of education and the 21st century educational paradigm as a way for art education using “smart education.” We will look for how and what to change will be needed in our times, and propose understanding how to take advantage of the future of smart education. One of the essential principles of Smart Education is taking advantage of the Web 2.0.Platform. The concept of Web 2.0 means the production and sharing of information. It is not a term that defines a simple technique but a way for participants of the Internet-centric environment to store and publish information. 21st century learners are digital learners who use photos or videos of themselves, or use a variety of state-of-the-art tools to communicate. They actively express their thoughts and are not prisoners of passive information. They can share information which they then actively reconfigure. Based on the theoretical background above, three “smart education” measures are presented. The three “smart education” measures studied in the third grade of junior high school are as follows: First, utilize the advantage of art lesson plans and the actual class through SNS (Social Network Service). This opens communication and information sharing between students and teachers, such as art lesson plans and the actual Web-based instruction, and reinforces the class. Today, most of the SNS is a web-based service, in addition to being a means by which users can communicate with each other through e-mail or instant messages. In recent years, SNS users are soaring as smart phone users are increasing with the expansion of wireless Internet service. The SNS market in the Republic of Korea led by Facebook (Facebook) and Twitter (Twitter) users has already surpassed 10 million in 2011, and its continued rise is expected for the foreseeable future. Facebook takes advantage of free communication, and art education was suggested for enhancing the sharing of information in this study. Second, by utilizing the advantage of art lesson plans and the actual class through Google Docs, art students can study away from textbook-centered instruction through Web 2.0. Teaching materials can be presented which can be easily shared. In the study, students and teachers took advantage of a common online space. This induction of smooth classroom communication allows collaborative learning. Inducing voluntary participation can be done in Google “modumbyeol” (group) collaborative learning using art education suggested by the “modumbyeol” learning space. Third, utilize the advantage of art lesson plans and the actual class through Presidential prezi. The teacher can link previous art education lesson plans and the process of communication and cooperative learning. To fit the characteristics of the students groups and the topic of each student, and by promoting online free decision-making and collaborative learning in the space of classes, students can complete their works from inception and are allowed to announce their plans. Prezi, a site designed as an easy tool for anyone, is a presentational tool for crafted presentations. Students are provided experience with the program that can be released as a group or individual online portfolio. As described above, the Smart Teaching Method and its applications can be applied in art education. In the present and the future of art education, “smart education” and its expected effects on the Teaching Method will continue to be investigated. In the future, based on the direction of “smart education”, challenges in art education will be presented.
