The subjects conducted cycle ergometer exercise in sea-level, 2,000m, 3,000m, 4,000m, 5,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia. Exercise intensity was 70%HRmax that be measured in sea-level. The results of the present study were as followed: 1. HR was significantly higher than sea-level from 3,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia. This result was thought as a compensation for decrease of oxygen concentration. 2. VE increased significantly from 4,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia and there was hypoxic ventilation response to compensate for oxygen delivery capacity in hypoxia. 3. There was no significant difference in VO2. From this result, we found that energy consumption in fixed relative intensity was same. 4. VCO2 increased at exercise 10min and recovery 10min in 5,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia. From this result, we found that activation of anaerobic metabolism depending on altitude. 5. Because lactate increased by altitude, we could find that anaerobic metabolism was activated by increase of relative intensity. 6. The higher altitude, the lower %SaO2 and PO2 were found. We could found SaO2, CaO2 difference were decreased by hypoxia. 7. There were significant differences at 3,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia from sea-level and 2,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia in PCO2 and HCO3-. These two values decreased significantly at 4,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia. This was respiratory alkalosis to compensate for metabolic acidosis by respiration. 8. Because of respiratory alkalosis, ph was higher at 4,000m, 5,000m compared with sea-level-3,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia in respectively. In exercise, there were steady states at each simulated altitudes. But at 5,000m simulated normobaric hypoxia, pH was decrease constantly from exercise 10 min to finish. Because respiratory alkalosis wasn't sufficient to countervail metabolic acidosis. From these results, we could found that healthy people who conduct 70%HRmax, 30min exercise can maintain acid base balance by respiration until 3,000m. But from 4,000m, it was hard to keep acid base balance of blood. So, simulated 4,000m is appropriate hypoxic condition to improve aerobic exercise capacity by increase ability of acid base balance. Present study is for common healthy people, so follow up studies are need which about aerobic athletes's acid base balance.
