A study of the effect of Food-Art activities on young children’s Abilities of Artistic Expression and Creativities원문보기

The purpose of current study is to investigate the effect of Food-Art activities on the development of Abilities of Artistic Expression and Creativities for young children. Therefore the research questions were established as follows: Firstly, has the Food-Art activities positively improved the young children’s Abilities of Artistic Expression? Secondly, has the Food-Art activities positively improved the young children’s Creativities? The research participants were 50 kindergarten children aged 5. They are from the two different kindergartens (Kindergarten M and Kindergarten O) located G city in Kungsangnamdo. The experiment group was 25 children in M Kindergarten who had Food-Art activities in their curriculum. The remaining 25 children were from O kindergarten as control group. The Experiment group had daily session of Food-Art activities alongside with Nuri-curriculum from the beginning of academic year 2013. The control group had ordinary school activities following Nuri-Curriculum. Young children’s Abilities of Artistic Expression was chosen from one of the three categories (Art activity process, Artistic expressive abilities, Art appreciation abilities) used in Chung MiKyung (1999)’s study. Creativities were assessed by Korean Figural Creativity Test for Young Children (Chun Kyungwon, 2001) In order to find out the effect of Food-Art Activities on young children’s Abilities of Artistic Expression, the data collected from the experiment and control groups were analysed by using Independent t-test (SPSS 14.0). The findings are as follows: Firstly, the children of the experiment group who had the regular Food-Art activities had higher scores in the Abilities of Artistic Expression than the control group. Secondly, the children of the experiment group who had the regular Food-Art activities had higher scores in Creativities. To conclude, the Food-Art activities provided in this study had positively improved young children’s Abilities of Artistic Expression and Creativities.
