This paper is focused on the study of similarities and differences between The Opera Aida and The Musical Aida through the comparative analysis. There has been no study which indicates the similarities and differences between The Opera and The Musical revolved around the primary aria music until now. In this study, therefore, a conclusion can be drawn clearly from the comparison and analysis on the work and the music between The Opera Aida and The Musical Aida. In addition, the process of work where the Opera is transformed into the Musical will be closely scrutinized. Even though the Musical is occurred from the Opera genre, to begin with, in order to support the view that the Musical is undoubtedly different genre apart from the Opera, the beginning and genesis of the two genres is traced back. Secondly, this study is an in-depth analysis of two genres and focuses closely on the music and work analysis through the same work of The Opera and The Musical . In the part of the work analysis, the plot and the characters in the work can be studied. In the part of the music analysis, the disposition of two composers in each work can be understood. In addition, the paper compares and analyzes the dominant aria which is sung by protagonists in the play when they are in the same situation or in the same emotion. The history of the Musical is started from the occurrence of the casual, sarcastic and ridiculous Operetta for common people. As a movement of culture caused by war, afterwards, this phenomenon crosses the border from Europe to England and United States. The contents of Operetta works are transformed to adapt to each nations and situation of the time and the music is also changed entirely into popular music. According to these continuous change in forms, the new genre of music, the Musical is created. On the basis of these thesis, the result from the study of the similarities and differences in music between The Opera Aida and The Musical Aida is as follows. At first, Both the Opera and The Musical are set in the War on Egypt. In addition, the true love that transcends their position and the love triangle between the male and female is the common ground on two plays. As the style and genre of music between two composers, however, is extremely different from each other, the differences are obvious. The Musical and the Opera , Secondly, make clear the similarities and differences in conflict and personality among characters in play according to the music. Thirdly, the style of two works composed by popular and classic music and the certain music of two composers can be compared. Elton John composes the music in his own free style combining with popular pop, rock, jazz and R&B and so on. These various types of rhythm and melody express dramatically the characters' symbol and change of feeling, environment of play and conversion of atmosphere and the plot. On the other hand, Verdi tries to link the musics by using abundant harmony of Italy and fine melody played by traditional Orchestral music to the fast-moving story of the Opera . The Musical makes up for the weak points and solves the problem of classical nature, that the Opera has, such as flexible connection in play and relation theorem between characters. That is, the Musical is recreated and reconstructed by using the popular music to help people access and understand the work easily. Based on this study, even more developed performances are expected to be delivered in the aspect of the relationship that the Opera turns into the Musical in the future.
