The total offshore wind power capacity is expected to touch 75GW by 2020 and the possibilities are immense. However, the offshore wind energy industry is still stricken with the burden of heavy capital investments. Although floating wind turbines for adapting deep water are being developed, most offshore wind farms still utilize traditional fixed-bottom foundation technologies. These traditional fixed-bottom foundation technologies include monopile, gravity based, tripod and steel jacket structures. Of these, monopile foundations have been the preferred, mainly with regards to construction, production, assembly and cost efficiency. Many of the planned offshore wind farms are going to be installed on monopile foundations and installed in shallow waters at water depths ranging between 10-30m and generally at distances within 12km from the shore. The coastal sediments in these are-as are often defined by sand and silt, making the seabed very mobile. At such locations, the wave and current in-teraction with the foundation has a significant effect on the total load on the turbine (nearly 50%). One of the most prominent risks to the offshore foundations is scouring, which occurs due to the constant wave and current action. The presence of a monopile in a marine environment changes the flow pattern in its immediate neighborhood, resulting in an increased local sediment transport. This causes scouring of the seabed around the monopile. This is a serious risk. If there is excessive excavation of the immediate seabed, the stability of the wind turbine foundation can be gravely compromised. Also, the structure can suffer increased hydraulic loading. The cables on the seabed which transport electricity generated by the turbines, can be exposed to bending stresses beyond the design conditions, due to the eroded seabed around the monopile. Owing to the abovementioned threats, monopiles have to be protected against the effects of scouring. This is a steep price to pay and it adds on to the already high investment costs of setting up an offshore wind farm. However, most of the cost by scour protection has seen by average flow system by difficulty of analysis and design practice leaning on the rubble scour protection. So is considerable room for improvement. In this paper, basing on this recognition, more reasonable scour protection is suggested for improving the economics of offshore wind power generator. In the fact that the strength of the horseshoe vortex of sediment transport mechanism is proportional to the standing wave formed near offshore wind generator, we propose hybrid monopile which has turbine at the toe. If the turbine mounted on hybrid monopile is exposed to wave or current, the turbine is rotate to dissipate wave energy. The standing wave weakened in this way can control sediment transport. Numerical simulation has been performed to verify the effectiveness of the hybrid monopile scour control. Numerical simulation is composed of basic to mass conservation equation and Navier-Stokes equation which is the most durable hydrodynamic model. Numerical modeling was performed based on the VOF method.
