The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of nursery teachers’ understanding and use of the 3rd Standard Childcare Curriculum, and to identify major barriers for its implementation. To achieve the purpose, a survey method was adopted. A questionnaire called ‘For the study of nursery teachers’ recognition of the 3rd Standard Childcare Curriculum’ was designed and its copies were distributed to 250 randomly selected nursery school teachers from 2,800 teachers of nursery centers in Gumi, Korea. The collected data were analyzed with the use of SPSS. The result is summarized as following. First, as for the degree of understanding of the 3rd Standard Childcare Curriculum, most teachers seem to be aware and know somewhat about it, and teachers of public facilities, those with in-service training about it, those with more than 5 years of teaching experience, and those in the age of 30’s and 40’s have higher degree of understanding. Second, as for the degree of use of the materials for the 3rd Standard Childcare Curriculum, ‘age-specific nursery program’, ‘specific nursery content’, ‘teacher guides’ are commonly used, but ‘visual materials’ are no so much in use. This may due to the lack of PR and the inconveniency of CD use. The degree of curriculum use is also a little bit higher in teachers of public facilities, those with in-service training, those with more than 5 years of teaching experience, and those in the age of 30’s and 40’s. This means that the more you knowable, the more you use. Third, as for the barriers to Standard Childcare Curriculum, the barriers are not felt as big problem. However, teachers point out lack of time due to over-work, lack of teachers, and lack of resource people as major barriers to the successful implementation of the curriculum.
