Purpose : This study tries to examine correlations between cardiovascular disease risk factors and obesity indices and which index can most predict cardiovascular disease risk factors in the obesity indices which can do them. Method : It compared cardiovascular disease risk factors and obesity indices of 6299 male and female adults who are more than 20 years old by using the source documents of the third year Korean National Health And Nutrition Examination Survey in the 5th stage of 2012, suggested cut-off values of obesity indices according to cardiovascular disease risk factors by using ROC curve analysis, and calculated the odds ratio to compare cardiovascular disease risk factors according to obesity indices by using multiple logistic regression. Result : When univariate analysis of obesity indices and cardiovascular disease risk factors was conducted through ROC curve analysis, the obesity index that sensitivity and specificity are high in men and women was the waist height ratio. However, the result of multiple logistic regression analysis has found that men were most related to diabetes in the four cardiovascular disease risk factors, waist circumference in Low HDL Cholesterolemia, body mass index in hypertension, and the waist height ratio in High LDL Cholesterolemia. Women were most related to the waist height ratio in hypertenstion, diabetes, and High LDL Cholesterolemia and Waist circumference in Low HDL Cholesterolemia. Conclusion : Both of waist circumference and the waist height ratio well reflect the cardiovascular disease risk factors. And as for obesity indices to predict cardiovascular disease risk factors, the obesity indices which are most related to measurement of cardiovascular disease risk factors can be waist circumference for men and the waist height ratio for women rather than body mass index. Studies on standardized obesity indices which consider the Korean population characteristics in the future. And proper cut-off values of obesity indices should be prepared to measure cardiovascular disease risk factors more accurately.
