With the social and economic development, public demand for cultural goods and cultural consumption continues to grow. Cultural product by museum could satisfy the demand of cultural consumption from public, and the profit from it can help museum save the problems in funding, giving a big push to museum to develop and improve in operation and management. Whereas, there are still some problems and obstacles in the development of museum cultural industry like fund shortage, lacking of experience and professionals, etc. This study is composed to identify the characteristics of cultural product purchasing by questionnaire survey, find out and summarize the effective marketing strategy for museum to develop cultural product with referring the successful experience form western countries. The research result showed as: most of the visitors preferred traditional museum shop comparing with online store. Accessory, book, replica of collections are the favorite kinds for visitors because they liked to purchase comparatively low price product for keepsake or for the special cultural characteristics. The design (appearance), the packing, and the practicability of the product are the important considerations in purchasing. Furthermore, membership, leaflet, DIY program, online advertisement and counseling service are not really attractive for most visitors; whereas, advertisement back on the museum ticket, free gift, famous designer, mailing service, limited edition, brand cooperation and other additive services were attractive to them. Based on the research result, the study proposes the following recommendations to museum in developing cultural products. First, museum should produce the kind of product which is in special design, with rich culture connotation and some practical value. For this purpose museum could take advantage from museum itself, get inspiration from museum collections and build the connection between product and museum. Second, set up a complete discount system for different target population according to the festival and holiday, including releasing special price for different groups of people periodically. Thus, besides the attraction of discount itself visitors can get surprise and expectation from purchasing. Third, cultural product sales should be based on museum shop with on-line store as supplement. And the museum shop should be well designed with using its cultural product to decorate, thus to lift the image and aesthetic level of museum, at the same time promote the product indirectly. Fourth, in promotion, museum should aware that the selling point of its cultural product is not product itself but the creation, cultural connotation and symbolic meaning of it. The point is emphasized on diffusion of culture and its public image. Thus, museum could approach this purpose by brand building, cooperating with other brands and public service ads, integrating social public resources, etc. At last, with the successful experience from western countries, the government and relevant associations can issue related preferential policies to help and support the development of cultural product by museum. Despite the limitation, this study will hopefully make some contributions to the development of cultural product by museum and cultural industry.
