The Effect on Elderly Female Osteoarthritis Patients’ Static Balance, Walking Function, and Pain of an Underwater Remedial Exercise Program원문보기

This study desires to establish the effect on elderly female osteoarthritis patients’ static balance, walking function, and pain of an underwater remedial exercise program.
The researcher conducted total 24 times of a program by 50 minutes and twice a week with 20 people who did not experience a regular and systematic underwater remedial exercise program targeting elderly women over 65 diagnosed with osteoarthritis living in G-gun of Gyeongsangbuk-do.
SPSS 20.0 Statistical Program was used to analyze a result, Paired t-test was applied. Level of significance is p<.05.
After applying an underwater remedial exercise program, a conclusion could be deducted as follows.
First, a static counterbalance improved partially through an underwater exercise.
Second, there was no meaningful difference of walking speed through an underwater exercise.
Third, pain, difficulty of daily life, and stiffness showed a meaningful improvement through an underwater exercise, so there is a positive effect of reducing pain.
Such study results show the positive effect elderly female osteoarthritis patients’ static balance and improving pain of an underwater remedial exercise. There are limit and restriction of this study to verify the application effect of an underwater exercise program using a buoyancy equipment targeting only exercise group without a control group clearly. A follow-up study should analyze how this program affects static balance, walking function, and pain factors widely, should combine with a more comprehensive study by increasing age and number of objects, and should design a comparative group additionally.
