In this study, Forced Vital Capacity(FVC), Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 Second(FEV1), Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 Second(FEV1)/Forced Vital Capacity(FVC), Peak Expiratory Flow(PEF) were measured in order to investigate the effect of stroke patients’ core exercises combined with abdominal breathing on their lung capacity. The number of subjects was 26 as they were randomly assigned to the Experiment Group and the Control Group in similar conditions as all the subjects were measured with Spirometer before and after their exercise session, and the result is as follows. There was no significant difference before and after a workout to Forced Vital Capacity(FVC) both in the Experiment Group and the Control Group(p>.05) and there was no significant difference as well between the two groups to Forced Vital Capacity(FVC)’s workout before and after comparison(p>.05). Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 Second(FEV1) in the two groups presented a clear distinction before and after a workout(p.05). Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 Second(FEV1)/Forced Vital Capacity(FVC) had a significant difference in the two groups before and after exercises(p<.05), and it also presented a clear difference after a workout(p.05). Peak Expiratory Flow(PEF) showed a significant difference in the two groups before and after a workout(p.05). In conclusion, stroke patients' Core Exercises combined with abdominal breathing had a positive effect on Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 Second(FEV1), Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 Second(FEV1)/Forced Vital Capacity(FVC) and Peak Expiratory Flow(PEF), additionally the patients who combined Core Exercise with abdominal breathing showed that Forced Expiratory Volume In 1 Second(FEV1)/Forced Vital Capacity(FVC) is a better result than the patients who executed abdominal breathing only. It seems that the patients who are losing their respiratory competence due to stroke need to improve their respiratory competence by practicing both; the existing breathing exercise and core exercise combined with abdominal breathing.
