In this study, effect of group art therapy using color psychology on ego-identity and emotional intelligence of university students was to be looked into. Purpose of this study was explained to at a university located in Seoul in which 7 students applied to participate the group art therapy with 1 male and 6 female subjects ranging from 21 years to 24 years old. A total of 14 group art therapy sessions for 80 minutes, 2 times a week from January 2015 to February 2015 were performed and 1 graduate student in master’s course majoring arts psychotherapy other than the researcher participated to observe the program and record conservations and behavioral change. 3 male students and 4 female students were selected as the control group and no measurements were taken on the experiment group during the group art therapy. ‘Korean type ego-identity test’ and ‘Adult emotional intelligence test’ was used for research tools and Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for SPSS 21.0 statistics program to verify pre·post effectiveness. Also, KHTP figure test was pre·post performed along with change shown in group art therapy process to analyze changed contents. The results of this study are summarized as follow. First, group art therapy using color psychology gave influence in enhancement of ego-identity of university students. As result of comparing level of ego-identity change, the experiment group showed statistically significant change in ego-identity level after performing group art therapy(=2.201, p<.05). Second, group art therapy using color psychology gave help in enhancing emotional intelligence of university students. There was no statistically significant result in emotional intelligence level after performing group art therapy(=1.690, p<.10), but the average increased(pre-test score of M=2.73, post-test score of M=2.90). Third, university students found their interests, advantages, and oneself in reality, dream about future positive self images, and make specific career plans as the group art therapy using color psychology passed toward the latter step. Especially symbols and images that colors have were understood in the intermediate step and it was shown that ego-identity and opportunity to introspect themselves were found. By revealing research results that group art therapy using color psychology has improved ego-identity and emotional intelligence of university students as shown above, the effect has been proved. Especially, changes of going to the process of self insight through voluntary association and expression of specific figures of research participants were confirmed. Therefore, this study has meaning to become a therapeutic index on plans effectively using symbol of color and emotion of color psychology in performing art therapy. Key Words : Color Psychology, Group Art Therapy, University Student, Ego-Identity, Emotional Intelligence
