This study attempted to observe the effects of lettuce seed priming on the high temperature germination of lettuce and the growth and development of lettuce after germination and it conducted experiments using the three chemicals of KNO3, NaNO3, and NaCl as reagents. Lettuce seed priming was conducted by putting 50 grams of non-germinated lettuce seeds into a 1000ml flask and adding 500 grams of distilled water (a ratio of 1:10), placing this into constant-temperature water baths, presetting the two low temperatures 10℃ and 15℃ an hour beforehand, and priming for 5 hours, 10 hours, and 15 hours respectively, and reagent concentrations were set at 0.1%, 0.3%, and 0.5%. Seeds that completed the priming process were dried in a drying machine, the weight was checked, and lettuce seed germination tests were conducted. Germination was performed in 30℃ high temperature conditions in a SANYO Growth chamber with the injection of 4.5 ml of distilled water and light conditions set at intensities of 2000 lux. No.2 (90mm) filter paper from Advantec was used. The petri dishes were filled with 50 seeds each, this was repeated twice, and the petri dishes were then placed on a flat surface. Germination results were checked twice, once on the second day and once on the seventh day and on the second day, only those seeds that had roots of at least 1mm were germinated and no other abnormalities were found. On the seventh day, of the final germinated seeds, only those that had no leaf abnormalities, root abnormalities, mold, or pinching were judged to be results of normal germination. Germination results show that the reagents KNO3, NaNO3, and NaCl all had high temperature germination effects that were 20% higher than that of seeds that were not treated and initial germination speeds also increased 20%. The priming conditions for seeds with the highest final germination rates in KNO3 were a concentration of 0.1%, a temperature of 15℃, for 5,10 hours, and the germination rate was 96.0% and the highest germination rate for seeds treated with NaNO3 was 96.6% and the treatment conditions were a 0.1% concentration at 15℃ for 5 hours. For NaCl, seeds treated with a concentration of 0.1% at 15℃ for 5 hours showed the highest germination rate at 96.6%. Germinated forms or germination rates show that treatment concentrations, treatment temperatures, and treatment times all had an effect on seed germination and results showed that the germination rates fall the longer the treatment time is at high temperatures and they also show that this negatively affects the growth and development of roots.
