This case study was conducted at the day care of welfare center for disabled, so called ‘S’ in this study. The sessions were held 60 minutes per session, and for once a week from January 8th to July 16th 2015, during which included 25 sessions in total. The researcher proceeded the drama therapy program that was structured based on Robert Landy’s role theory and the use of integrated arts, and then qualitatively analyzed the effect of drama therapy on problematic behavior and social skills of developmentally disabled people. In addition to qualitative analysis, Social Skills Scale and Problem Behavior Scale for teachers from Gresham and Elliott’s Social Skills Rating System (1990) were used as measurements, and SPSS 16.0 was used to run matched-pair t-test. Videos, journals, creative works, and participant interviews were used for further evaluation. The significance of this study is that the drama therapy was applied to developmentally disabled people in different ages, and the results were analyzed accordingly. As a result, drama therapy was found to have an effect on reducing problematic behavior and increasing social skills of developmentally disabled people. From the qualitative analysis, drama therapy techniques that involve train play, puppet show, masks, and dolls were shown to bring up positive response from the participants. However, name projective technique using an object or a doll was not suitable to developmentally disabled people. As the program proceeded, participants showed a remarkable increase in concentration, spontaneity, initiative, and emotional interaction. The researcher hopes the present study be used as basis for further research on drama therapy and people with developmental disabilities.
