The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of language intervention using situation picture cards on the improvement of verbal problem solving ability in children with intellectual disabilities. The verbal problem solving ability of the study meant their ability to answer several questions on the whys and wherefores of the situation, its solution and inference, and its clue and supposition after they looked at picture cards. For the research of the study, 3 children with intellectual disabilities of 5 to 6 years old in language age participated in pre-test and post-test, and pre-and-post test comparing method was applied. In addition, the tests were carried out a total of 21 times including 3 times a week for 40 minutes a session. Intervention program for the study was composed of 6 steps like checking the situation, inferring and explaining about it, looking at it and searching for its cause, listening it and finding its solution, telling his/her own experiences, and finalizing the overall content. A change of their scores in verbal problem solving ability was checked by using verbal problem solving ability test. The findings of the study were summarized as follows: First, when language intervention using situation picture cards was carried out toward children with intellectual disabilities, all the children's ability to answer the questions on the whys and wherefores of the situation had more improved in post-intervention outcomes than pre-intervention ones. Second, when language intervention using situation picture cards was carried out toward children with intellectual disabilities, all the children's ability to answer the questions on the solution and inference of the situation had more improved in post-intervention outcomes than pre-intervention ones. Finally, when language intervention using situation picture cards was carried out toward children with intellectual disabilities, all the children's ability to answer the questions on the clue and supposition of the situation had more improved in post-intervention outcomes than pre-intervention ones. In the above-mentioned findings, it was found that language intervention using situation picture cards had a positive effect on the verbal problem solving ability of children with intellectual disabilities, although there was a difference between the children in its changes.
