The Effects of Halliwick Aquatic Physical Therapy on Gross Motor Function and Aquatic Adjustment in Development Delayed Infants원문보기

The purpose of this study is the effects of an aquatic physiotherapy method (Halliwick-Therapy) upon gross motor function and aquatic adjustment in development delayed infants. Subjects were infants (N=22,0-36month) who were diagnosed with the development delayed to meet this case of study. Subjects in the control group received the treatment over a period of 10 weeks included 30 minutes of aquatic therapy two times per week and a round conventional physical treatment as well. All subjects were evaluated by the measurements called the Gross Motor Function Measurement-88(GMFM-88), Water Orientation Test of Alyn1(WOTA1). The outcome of the evaluations was measured again compared to the before the therapy after 10 weeks. Also, the correlation between the two measuring tools(GMFM-88 and WOTA1) was analyzed in order to make sure of the correlation of the two evaluations. The result indicates followings after experiments. GMFM-88 had it that subjects in the Halliwick-Therapy attained significantly higher total score in the GMFM-88 with all the items including lying & rolling, sitting, crawling & kneeling, standing, walking, Running & jumping(p<.05). The improvement of total score of WOTA1 with the items(general adjustment, entering the pool, exiting the pool, blowing bubbles, side floating, back floating, splashing, vertical balancing, standing, sitting in water)was significantly higher(p.05). The correlation between the measurements was statistically significant(p<.05). In conclusion, applying into the clinic, it was discovered that Halliwick-Therapy with round conventional therapy would be effective and there would be significant differences between the measurements. From this moment to the future, the various and further research of the effects of an aquatic therapy method for development delayed infants as well as the development of an aquatic physiotherapy measuring tools and the standardized aquatic physiotherapy programs that are more suitable for the infants should be made up consistently.
