Through classification and analysis of theses on horticulture therapy programs by sections that were performed for general adults in Korea, this research’s aim is to provide basic data for the development of specialized horticulture therapy program that is suitable for general adults’ purposes.
The theses are a master’s thesis or a doctoral dissertation that have been published from 2003 by 2015. These theses analyzed as follows by sections 541 horticulture therapy programs of 33 theses related to general adults, which are registered in RISS.
On a year-on-year basis, the number of theses has increased in succession. Of all 33 graduate theses, 12.1% (4 theses) from 2003 by 2006, 36.4% (12 theses) from 2007 by 2010, and 51.5% (17 theses) from 2011 by 2015 have been published.
When classifying published theses under the type of researchers-a master’s degree and a doctorate, the number of masters’ theses is 87.9% (29 theses) and the number of doctoral dissertations is 12.1% (4 theses), so it shows that the number of masters’ theses is a high rate overwhelmingly.
In terms of the number of published theses by major, the number of theses of horticulture therapy-related majors is 75.8% (25 theses), which is a high rate compared with majors unrelated to horticulture therapy. The number of theses of horticulture therapeutics major is 64.0% (16 theses), and it is the largest number among the horticulture therapy-related majors. The number of theses of social welfare major is 37.5% (3 theses) and that of pedagogy is 12.5% (1 theses), and it is the smallest number among the majors unrelated to horticulture therapy.
Analyzing the horticulture therapy activities in the theses by subjects, the number of crafts activities is 63.2% (342 times), cultivation activities is 27.0% (146 times), cooking activities is 4.3% (23 times), learning activities is 4.0% (22 times) and outdoor activities is 1.5% (8 times). So it shows that crafts activities were performed the most.
In terms of the number of times of horticulture therapy program activities, 84.8% (28 programs) performed activities less than 20 times, and it is the highest rate.
In terms of the period of horticulture therapy program activities, the number of weekly programs is 66.7% (22 theses) and it is the highest rate overall.
In terms of headcount of the recipients of the programs, one to 10 people were given 42.4% (14 theses), and it is the highest rate.
In terms of the places for program fulfillment, centers have been used for 33.3% (11 theses), and it is the highest rate. So it shows that centers have been used for program activities in general.

I hope that this research will provide basis data for planning and fulfilling horticulture therapy programs for general adults and furthermore, horticulture therapy programs for general adults can progress and develop much more.
