Study On The Characteristics Of Europe Licensed Musical Since The 2000 - Focused On The Viennese Musical -원문보기

In the history of musicals in Korea, from 2000, foreign licensed musicals began to be introduced genuinely, and industrially, the field has shown significant growth up to now. Along with that, musicals form the largest part in the performing arts market. As musicals are the media having popular appeal, they naturally record the highest sales and highest rate of ticket booking, and the demand of them is increasing sharply. Research has been conducted on foreign licensed musicals mostly produced in Broadway or West End, but those from the other cultures have been hardly studied so far. It may be because the audience tends to have great trust and faith in England and America as the mainland of musicals. Aside from British or American musicals, European musicals, mainly French musicals, are also noticeable foreign licensed musicals. From 2005, we have licensed and introduced European musicals, mainly French musicals, but compared with British or American musicals, the number of works or their economic ripple effect is rather low, so not much research has been performed on them yet. But in 2010, Viennese licensed musicals were introduced first, and they have exerted great ripple effect in the musical market and changed their own status in it. Also, we can see that French musicals have constantly elevated their own status and still exert influence on the musical market. Being freed from advanced research mainly dealing with British and American licensed musicals, this author considers the current status of European licensed musicals and their work characteristics. Especially, among the Viennese licensed musicals produced after 2010, this study focuses on having its premiere in 2012. Furthermore, this study analyzes both the internal and external work characteristics of to see if those characteristics really represent the group of Viennese musicals. The organization of this article is as follows: first, Chapter 1 explains the purpose of this study on European licensed musicals and its subjects and organization. Also, advanced research is reviewed to see how this study is differentiated from that. Chapter 2 explains the historical outline of European musicals starting with Opérette to clarify the definition of European musicals only existing in Korea. Also, to define foreign licensed musicals, this study examines their theoretical and strategic meanings starting with industrial property rights. Also, this thesis is going to examine the stats of European licensed musicals emerging after 2000 centering around France, Czech, or Vienna. Narrowing the range, Chapter 3 examines one of the Viennese licensed musicals, , in terms of its internal and external work characteristics. Through analysis on its script, music, and spectacle elements, this study intends to see if those are associated with the genre of Viennese licensed musicals. Also, externally, this study will discuss star-marketing, glocalization, or habitus, too, in connection with Koreans’ characteristics. Lastly, in conclusion, this author will present how Viennese licensed musicals have influenced the Korean musical market and provide the prospect of them and implications based on that.
