Recently, many infrastructures are built in coastal zone where is important for industry, trade, tourism, and etc. However, as we have seem in the case of 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami, Tsunami can cause enormous loss of life and property in coastal community. Therefore, to protect coastal infrastructures from Tsunami, it is necessary to predict Tsunami-induced wave forces when designing coastal structures. COBRAS(COrnell BReaking wave And Structure) is a 2-D numerical model based on the RANS(Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes) equations using VOF(Volume Of Fluid) method to track the free surface with turbulence closure model for turbulent flows. This model was known to predict interactions between coastal structures and hydrodynamics induced by waves near coastal region through many research. Therefore, to investigate pressure forces of tsunami on vertical walls, numerical simulations was employed in present paper then results from simulations was compared with measured experiment results. The model domain for COBRAS consisted a portion of the wave flume. Grid was a square shape and its size was 5 cm × 5cm. Solitary wave was used for input wave condition. As solitary wave has theoretically infinite wave length, many researchers employed solitary wave to investigate on tsunami. Wave forces were calculated using numerical integration. COBRAS was validated by comparing the simulated water elevation, wave pressure and force with the result from large-scale wave flume experiment. Simulated water elevation and wave pressure were similar to measured the result from large-scale wave flume experiment. Wave force was predicted well, although peak of wave force from numerical simulation was slightly larger than measured data. Maximum wave force was also overestimated for large wave heights and seaward wall locations. After COBRAS was validated, a variety of numerical simulations was performed to investigate the interaction of wave height, location of wall and wave force. Wave force prediction formula was suggested by using regression analysis.
