Objective: The aim of this study was to compare shear bond strength among different ceramic bracket base designs after pH cycling. Material and Methods: Fifty human premolars extracted from young patients (age from thirteen to twenty-nine) for orthodontic treatment were used in this study and were divided into five groups; Four ceramic brackets (Clarity™, Inspire ICE™, Crystaline®7, Radiance plus™) and one metal bracket (Mini Uni Twin™) were used in this study. Teeth were vertically embedded in polyvinylchloride tubes and the brackets were bonded on the teeth according to the manufacturers instruction. After pH-cycling all samples, shear bond strengths were measured with the universal testing machine. Scanning electron microscope was used to examine the bracket base before bonding and after debonding. Results: Three ceramic brackets (Inspire ICE™, Crystaline® 7, Radiance plus™) showed similar shear bond strength with the metal bracket. Only Clarity™ showed statistically difference with the rest of the groups. Conclusion: The shear bond strength of ceramic brackets could be decreased at a similar level with that of metal brackets depending on the base design which could be useful in clinical practice.
