This study attempted to examine the impact of ankle strategy exercise on balancing ability of patients with stroke according to the existence of visual feedback. A total of 26 patients due to stroke were selected as research subjects who were evenly divided into visual feedback group (VFG) and visual disuse group (VDG) each with 13 samples. All the research subjects received 40-minute ankle strategy exercise that includes warming-up and wrap-up exercise for three times a week for a total of six weeks. According to the existence of visual feedback, their balancing ability received test-retest. As for data analysis, SPSS ver. 20.0 program was used for statistical treatment. General characteristics were captured in mean and standard deviation. Levene F-test was conducted for homogeneity test of the subjects, while Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used for normal distribution test. ANOVA was performed to compare and measure the balancing ability of VFG and VDG before and after the intervention. A paired-sample t-test was used for examining significant difference between pretest and post hoc test. A statistical significance level was set at α=.05. According to the statistical results, interaction between group and time of LOS turned out to be significant in the rear, while no statistical significance was observed in the front, left and right. The main effects of LOS change of post hoc test according to the existence of visual feedback appeared in the front, rear, left and right (p<.05). The between-group main effects were also observed in rear, left and right (p<.05). As for the TUG, BBS, FRT and POMA change between pretest and post hoc test according to the existence of visual feedback, statistical significance was observed in all of the group, time and interaction between group and time (p<.001), while VFG showed more effective change. This study confirmed that applying visual feedback during ankle strategy exercise enhanced balancing ability, which implies that visual information activated the exercise performance area of the brain by enhancing the body control ability. Diverse studies on visual feedback will be required in the future.
