Accelerated Carbonation is the technology of CO2 reduction for climate change and can be utilized as CCUS(Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage) technology; CO2 reduction by utilization of by-product generated from industries and recycling of by-product. In this study, heavy metals and hazardous substances in municipal solid waste incineration(MSWI) ash were stabilized by utilization of MSWI ash and CO2, then quantitative amount of CO2 solidification was measured. Also, another study was done by utilization of low quality limestone, low quality dolomite, CO2, and waste paper for improvement of waste paper quality. The low quality limestone and dolomite not used in limestone industries and CO2 generated from paper industries were employed in this study. Several experiments were conducted for heavy metals stabilization of MSWI, then especially the bottom ash of MSWI was selected. Generally, MSWI fly ash is dumped as specified waste and MSWI bottom ash is separated as a general waste. In this respect, it is the first trial to heavy metals stabilization of MSWI bottom ash and fly ash for expanding reuse of MSWI bottom ash and fly ash recycling in this study. Since MSWI ash contains heavy metals and large amount of CaO, it is proper for accelerated carbonation technology. MSWI bottom ash and MSWI fly ash contain Portlandite, Friedel’s salt, and Ettringite that are able to react with CO2 and some unstable heavy metals are eluted easily by water. The products were CaCO3, CaSO4, amorphous Al2O3 and etc by accelerated carbonation of MSWI bottom ash and fly ash. Consequently, the amount of heavy metal in MSWI fly ash was decreased from 7.837mg/L to 0.016mg/L in case of Pb. Also, heavy metals like Cu, Pb, and etc in MSWI bottom ash were stabilized. The solidification amounts of CO2 were 65.74g/kg(MSWI fly ash) and 57.01g/kg(MSWI bottom ash) by accelerated carbonation. In paper industries, high quality limestone has been used as an inorganic filler. And, limestone quality and hydrolic activity are known as the yield rate of precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC) for whiteness of paper. In this study, accelerated carbonation was used for the improvement of waste paper whiteness by utilization of low quality limestone and dolomite. Results indicated that the porosity of limestone is more important than quality of limestone or hydrolic activity. Therefore, the yield of PCC directly indicated the amount of CO2 solidification. The high porosity of low quality limestone is the main factor for improvement of waste paper whiteness. Also, the optimal calcination condition was set up for stable porosity because the stable porosity is generated by calcination of limestone. The optimal calcination condition is 1000℃ for two hours in case of 10~20mm coarse, then quick freezing after calcination for stable porosity of quick lime.
