In this study, healthy adults are randomly assigned into 8 persons (60IEG, n=8) of 60°/sec angular velocity isokinetic training and another 8 persons(180IEG, n=8) of 180°/sec angular velocity isokinetic training, total 16 subjects were applied 8 weeks of training. After 8 weeks of training, 16 persons of subjects were assessed with balance and proprioceptive function to compare and analyze for providing basic ankle joint rehabilitation exercise program. Repeated measure ANOVA was used to verify differences of ankle joint isokinetic muscle strength, balance, proprioceptive sense according to exercise type. For post-hoc test, T-test was conducted. All statistical significance level was set at ⍺=.05.
The results of this study are as follows;
1. In ankle joint isokinetic muscle strength, there was a significant dorsi flexion and plantar flexion strength increase at 60°/sec low speed assessment (muscle strength) between pre and post training in both groups(p<.01). It also showed significant interaction differences between groups and times (p=.001). Especially, low speed high intensity training 60IEG group showed significantly higher muscle strength increase than 180IEG group. In angula velocity 180°/sec of high speed (endurance) test, both groups showed significant strength increase in dorsiflexion and plantar flexion (p<.01), also It showed significant interaction differences between groups and times (p=.001). Especially, high speed training 180IEG group showed significantly higher muscle endurance increase than 60IEG group.
2. In pre/post exercise balance test, stability index values have been shown to significantly reduce in both the 60IEG and 180IEG group (p<.05, p<.01). In particular, interaction in groups and times, muscle endurance training group 180IEG showed significantly higher reduced stability index values(p=.001) than muscle strength training group 60IEG. For weight distribution index values, both groups showed reduced values between pre and post test(p<.01, p<.05), but there have been no significant differences in groups and times interaction.
3. In proprioceptive sense of pre/post exercise test between the groups, passive joint position sense (PJPS) showed no significant differences, but active joint position sense test(AJPS) showed significantly reduced angle position error in 180IEG(p<.05).
As a result of this study, isokinetic exercise effects applying angular velocity to ankle joint muscle strength, balance and proprioceptive sense improvement has been identified. Therefore, in the future study, it is expected to contribute body stability and balance improvement with the ankle joint exercise program based on this study.
