The purpose of this A study is to analyze the imagination beyond-borders in Kim Yeongha's long novels, by examining characteristics of de-constructive writing modes in them. The 'borders' is defined by dictionaries as 'a limit by which a thing is distinguished'. Paradoxically, the 'beyond borders' means the 'going beyond a limit by which a thing is distinguished.' The concept of 'beyond- borders', going in and out borders, means various experiments and attempts beyond the previous cognitions and myth. The beyond-borders de-constructs the existing notions and unified imagination by demolishing the traditional borders which was seemingly extensive and removing the difference that was regarded as definite one. In the early novels of Kim Yeongha, the prominently esthetic approach to suicide, death, murder and so on appeared. While Kim Yeongha had acquired the configuration of esthetic uniqueness in his early novels by focusing on aesthetic constitution of text itself, he extended the imagination beyond-borders and denotation of his works through various materials from country and nation to wandering youth and old man with amnesia in 2000s. Fantasy or radical nihilism shown in his works is the descriptive strategies for dramatically giving shapes to absurdity of materialism in a capitalistic society. Such strategies clearly show some characteristics of de-constructive wiring modes which intend to the borders. In particular,『Why did Arang』,『Black Flower』,『Empire of Light』examined by this study are works having potentials of new recognition prospects for his novels through various kinds of de-constructive writings. Chapter II attempts to examine the imagination beyond-boundary through the variations of texts in the . The story of reorganizes the post-narrative imagination in various ways through the de-constructive method which blurs the boundary between original and forged edition. The de-constructive mode in 『Why Did Arang』uses a strategy that emphasizes the openness of text through the meta-critique in terms of the form, while proving that a truth does not exist, by revealing that it is not possible to clarify boundaries between the past and the present, history and fiction, and reality and virtual in terms of the contents. In conclusion, it shows a potential to overcome the limit of reality, through various variations. Chapter III intends to deal with imagination beyond-national and the modern subject through the『Black Flower』. The『Black Flower』is a historical novel regarding deaths and lives of 1033 persons who left the Jemulpo port in 1905. It also deviates from the previous universal idea for historical novels. Kim Yeongha de-constructs historical descriptions of a dominant ideology and simultaneously creates some speech types of minorities in the de-constructed space. When we ask, 'what is the country?' we already orient toward semantics of meanings. Thus, the method of question exhibits its de-constructive mode. On the basis the imagination beyond-national he shows, the relationship between country and individuals is considered on the level of origination and a potential for the new de-constructively historical description is verified. Chapter IV describes the cross-nationaland imaginations beyond-ideology in the 『Empire of Light』. Some interesting characters Kim Yeongha creates show nihility and sneer, and the de-constructive imagination is found in their talking about the 'anarchism'. The subjects attempt to recognize and think about the ideology, a substance of negative power which suppress them, by exploring their own inner world, rather than directly stand against it. As the subjects' ethical recognitions are modified, they try to disorganize and de-construct the existing ideology, and the imaginations beyond-ideology is maximized. Kim Yeongha has continuously focused on problems of human beings and pathos of life through various themes and materials. He uses money, family and country, all of which may represent capitalist society as the themes of his works, while continuously questioning some distorted modes and the identities of individuals, the autonomous subjects. From how he raises questions, various strategies are interpreted, and the de-construction is discovered. In addition, his view of language and his authorship would be analyzed along with an investigation of the mode of self-reflective de-constructive writings. Kim Yeongha who has practiced the de-constructive writings by refusing a fixed meaning system is a representative author who has steadily attracted attentions of readers by using different techniques and contents. The imagination beyond-borders in his novels is analyzed to verify new functionality and meaning, when the narrative of literature is embodied.
