The purpose of the study is to make a study on instructional plan for integrated curriculum of music and history in middle-school music education, focused on the Renaissance era. To this end, it integrated two subjects, music and history, based on KDB integration model of Drake. The main focus of the integration is on the common interdisciplinary contents of the two subjects on the Renaissance era, along with skills to be fulfilled, and attitudes to be achieved on each subject. First of all, in order to set up the direction of integrated education, it looked through the concept and the necessity of integrated education from various scholars, and, in order to design an integrated curriculum, it made studies of KDB integration model and steps for the integration. Besides, it analyzed precedent researches designing an integrated curriculum of music and history, based on which, this study suggested the integrated curriculum. Moreover, in order for analysis and integration of curricula of music and history, it first analyzed key competencies, contents scheme, achievement standards in the 2015 Revised National Curriculum, and in order to identify the current educational contents with regard to the Renaissance era, it examined learning contents in all 18 kinds of middle school music textbooks, and 8 kinds of middle school history textbooks. Designing an integrated curriculum of music and history based on the KDB model is consist of seven steps, which are scanning and clustering, choosing an issue or theme, creating a concept web, constructing the Know/Do/Be, designing assessment tasks, creating guiding questions, and planning instruction and assessment. A lecture of integrated curriculum is designed for students to learn the integrated contents(Know), skills(Do) and attitudes(Be), and is composed of five steps in total, which are motivation, theoretical understanding, activities, summary and assessment. Students are learning integrated contents(K) through steps of motivation and theoretical understanding, and revealing integrated skills(D) on the step of activities. In addition, on the final step of summary and assessment, students can foster integrated attitudes(B) in connection with contents(K) and skills(D). In the end, the study suggested a unit, ‘the life and the music in the Renaissance Era’ with the integration of music and history subjects, and developed teaching guides for three-section classes. The first subunit is called ‘the changes of society and music in the Renaissance era’, the second ‘Religious reformation and religious music in the Renaissance era’, and the last ‘Development of society and music in the Renaissance era’. The first subunit, ‘the changes of society and music in the Renaissance era’, is making motivation by showing moving pictures of ‘Hundre Years's war’, on which students make discussions, and making them theoretically understand the meaning of the Renaissance and the concepts of humanism. On the basis of the understanding, students do research and make presentation on the musical characteristics of the Renaissance era, after listening to ‘Agnus Dei’, the mass of the medieval times, and ‘Missa La sol fa re mi’ by Josquin des Prez of the Renaissance era. The second subunit, ‘Religious reformation and religious music in the Renaissance era’, is making motivation by showing the video clip of ‘religious reformation by Martin Luther’ and doing students’ discussions, and making theoretical understandings on polyphony and monophony. Based on the understanding, students publicly express their views on ‘Agnus Dei’ of the medieval times, and ‘Ave Maria’ by Josquin des Prez of the Renaissance era. Moreover, for assessment, a group of 8 students will sing the ‘Ave Maria’, a motet for 4 voices, one of which is taken in charge by two students. The third and the last subunit, ‘Development of society and music in the Renaissance era’ is making motivation by using pictures of development in the areas of science, art and literature of the Renaissance. And, through understanding development cases and appreciation of instrumental and profane music, the subunit makes students achieve theoretical understanding, and make them compose and present a renaissance style music. The study can find its meaning by suggesting an integrated music curriculum at the time that 2015 Revised Music Curriculum put an emphasis on integrated classes, which has in effect from 2018.
