Korea's economic development achieved the economic prosperity in the 1990s. At the same time, the settlement of the municipal system has activated the establishment of various forms of museums since that time. Many of studies on spatial patterns of the museum have been also carried out actively. Even if researches on exhibition space has been conducted frequently, studies on Intermediate Space in public space have not been carried out in active. Therefore, this research is about the Intermediate Space that is intermediate space among exhibition spaces and the purpose of study to understand the symbolism of each Intermediate Space in accordance with the types of the entire spatial structure of the museum. To do this study, the study selected 6 national∙public historical museums in Korea as a study case and classified them into single-story and multi-story depending on the story structure of the building. Museums are selected according to a total of 6 spatial structures of hall type, corridor one, entrance one, void one, courtyard one, repeat one and performed nine analyses to understand how the symbolism of Intermediate Space is expressed through the relationship with an Great Hall. By grasp of the patterns of entire museum, the study tried to understand visitor’s repeated experience on the Intermediate Space and through this process the study comprehended the symbolization of the Intermediate Space. Through five analyses, Palace Museum of a multi-story void type was found to have higher symbolism than other museums and Buyeo Museum of a single-story hall type to have the highest symbolism compared to other museums.
