Background : There is an increasing interest in microelements as vitamin and microelements are well-known as essential elements in the mechanism that nutritional contents are used as energy in our body. Mineral, constituent for our human body plays an essential role in performing various physiological functions in the body and causes health problems or diseases if minerals are insufficient or overaccumulated. So balanced intake and maintenance of minerals is very important. In modern times, the number of overweight people is increasing greatly because body fat is overaccumulated with the reduction in physical activity, stress and changes in dietary habits. As one of obesity management methods, the sufficient intake of vitamin and minerals is emphasized and subsequently the methods to identify the balance and deficiency of minerals and prescribe dietary treatment and health functional foods accordingly are emerging. Obesity is recognized as one of the chronic disease courses and well known to be associated with hypomagnesemia, among the blood minerals. However, it is considered that the fact that over 99% magnesium exists in cells suggests that the measurement results of blood magnesium is less accurate. For this reason, this study analyzes the ingredients of magnesium by analyzing the minerals in hair tissues, measures the magnesium concentration by using the hair tissue analytical method that is easily used to collect clinical specimen of such minerals in hair tissues and utilized a lot in recent years, and identifies the association with body fat, one of the obesity indexes. Method : Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis can calculate values by using the level of magnesium obtained from the results of hair tissue mineral analysis and BIOSAPCE's INBODY720, body component analyzer. It is a comparative analysis of association with magnesium by measuring the body fat, among the ingredients that constitute a human body, from the body weight. Result : This study investigated correlation between magnesium concentration and body fat in hair tissue mineral analysis and verified how total cholesterol, high density liporotein-cholesterol, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol, fasting blood glucose, aspartate -aminotransferase, alanin-aminotrasferase, and alkaline-phosphatase were influential in order to identify the linear relevance between the associated variables including hair tissue magnesium concentration and the body fat. As a result, it was found that obesity-related variables did not show significant characteristics other than total cholesterol. Therefore, the body fat that this study tried to understand appeared not to have influenced the concentration of magnesium. Conclusion : Further studies need to investigate the association between the obesity indexes other than body fat and the concentration of magnesium in hair tissue in the future. More in-depth analysis on the correlation between content of various minerals as well as magnesium and body fat is required in the hair tissue analysis, which is recently used a lot. It is considered that the association between magnesium and body fat should be identified by using the hair tissue mineral analysis and more specific research findings are required from the changing process that depends on the nutritional intervention of minerals in obesity-related patients, especially in lipidemia, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
