(Toddler Behavior Checklist: ...

The objective of this study is to understand differences in problem behaviors of infants(1-2 years) in daycare center in accordance with teacher variables and class variables. The research questions were set up like below.
1. What is the relation between infants' problem behaviors and teacher variables? 1-1. What is the relation between infants' problem behaviors and teachers' teaching experience in infant class? 1-2. What is the relation between infants' problem behaviors and teachers' coping strategies?
2. What is the relation between infants' problem behaviors and class variables? 2-1. Are infants' problem behaviors different depending on sex composition rate? 2-2. Are infants' problem behaviors different depending on class size? 2-3. Are infants' problem behaviors different depending on the rate of teacher versus infants?
Research participants are 134 toddlers aged 1-2 years who go to unincorporated・incorporated private・national and public child care center located in Busan city and 51 teachers in charge of their daycare. This study modified and then used toddler problem behavior questionnaire used by Boyung Kim (2005) after modifying and improving Toddler Behavior Checklist (TBC) developed by Larzelere, Amberson and Martin(1989) in order to measure toddler’s problem behavior. This study used instrument for toddler, which was constructed by Youngmee Ahn (2016) modifying and improving TSQ(Teacher Strategy Questionnaire) on the basis of 51 items collected by Yeonha Kim (2007) from Behavior Support Questionnaire created by Stormont et al (2005) and Interventions of Preschool Teachers to Address Challenging Behaviors reported by Watkins(2005) so as to measure teacher’s strategy to address challenging behaviors. In this study, it was used, excluding negative sub-factor. This study used the data analysis methods like following. First, in order to basically analyze the level of infants' problem behaviors, the descriptive statistics of sub-factors of problem behaviors were calculated. Second, regarding the research question1, in order to understand the relations between infants' problem behaviors, teachers' teaching experience in infant class, and teachers' strategies to cope with problem behaviors, the correlation analysis was conducted. Third, regarding the research question2, in order to examine the relations between infants' problem behaviors and class variables, after categorizing the sex composition rate, rate of teacher vs infants, and class size, t-test was conducted respectively to analyze differences in infants' problem behaviors in accordance with the three class variables.
The conclusions of this study are like following. First, infants' problem behaviors are not related with teachers' experience in infant class. Second, among sub-factors of infants' problem behaviors, emotional instability has significant relations with 'plan of daily activities, and expected level' to infants, sub-factor among teachers' strategies to copes with problem behaviors. In other words, the higher the ‘plan of daily activities, and expected level’ among teachers' strategies to cope with problem behaviors is, the lower infants' emotional instability is. Third, aggressive behaviors are highly shown in classes with more boys than girls. Fourth, aggressive behaviors and the overall level of problem behaviors are highly shown in the group with more than ten infants in a class. Fifth, the level of rebellious behavior is highly shown in the group with less than five infants per teacher.
